Preguntas frecuentes sobre mensajes/textos

This page explains the ins and outs of texting, how to send and receive texts with your mobile device and ways to archive your messages.

Información general

  1. What is messaging?

Messaging, or texting, is a way to send and receive written messages on your mobile device. Messages can be sent to other mobile numbers or email addresses, and they can include text, pictures, videos, links, emojis and more.

Messaging is a quick way to stay in touch with your friends and family if you aren't available to speak on the phone.

  2. How much does messaging cost?

If you're on  nuevo Plan Verizon (including unlimited data options), you have unlimited messaging for no additional charge, including messages to and from other countries while you're in the US.

If you're on a different plan, the My Plan page in My Verizon explains how your messages are billed:

UU.?

If you're on  nuevo Plan Verizon (including unlimited data options), you have unlimited messaging to and from other countries while you're in the US.

  5. What is a multimedia message?

A multimedia message is also called a picture or video message. It's a text message that has a multimedia file attached to it, such as a:

    • Foto
    • Video
    • GIF
    • Nota de voz
    • Street address (e.g., your location, the location of a store or restaurant, etc.)
    • vCard or other contact card

Multimedia messaging may not be supported by particular mobile operators in other countries. You can check availability in a specific country on our Servicios internacionales página.

  6. Do picture and video messages (multimedia messages) cost more than standard text messages?

Text and multimedia messages are billed the same way, unless you're on a pay-as-you-go messaging plan.

If you're on  nuevo Plan Verizon (including unlimited data options), you have unlimited messaging for no additional charge, including messages containing pictures and videos.

If you're paying per message, messages containing only text typically cost less than messages containing pictures and videos.

For your specific messaging rates, go to the My Plan page in My Verizon:

  7. Do I need to sign up for messaging?

Messaging is automatically included with your wireless service, so you don't need to sign up to use it.

Messaging rates vary according to your plan.

  8. Do messages have character limits?

Standard text messages (SMS) can have up to 160 characters. Extended text messages (EMS) can have up to 1000 characters. Multimedia messages (MMS) can have up to 1000 characters in addition to pictures, videos, sound clips and more.

If you write a text message that's more than 160 characters, the message will send as an EMS. Depending on the wireless carrier and device, the recipient may receive the message as a single message or as multiple messages in a row.

  1. How do I know if a message has arrived on my device?

Generally, if an envelope or chat bubble icon appears on your screen, it means you've gotten a message. You may also see a number appear over your messaging app icon.

Device-specific visual instructions about messaging are available for many devices in our simuladores interactivos de dispositivos. Select your device from the list and select the Texting section.

If your device isn't listed, go to the Asistencia dispositivos page for your device and tap or click the User Guide link at the top of the page.

  2. Can I view text messages online?

If you use Verizon Messages (Message+), you can view your messages online through the Verizon Messages website.

Note: Sign in with your mobile number and My Verizon password.

  3. Can I view text messages sent or received on another line on my account?

If you're the Account Owner or Account Manager, you can view the message usage details for another line on your account.

However, you can't see the actual content of the messages sent and received on another line.

  4. Can I view text message usage for my account online?

The Account Owner and Account Managers can view the message usage details for each line on their account in My Verizon. Message usage details include the mobile number, date and time of each message sent and received.

There's no way to view the actual content of texts sent or received on other lines of your account.

    2. Tap or click View message details.

  5. If I have my device turned off, will I still receive messages?

If a message is sent to you while your device is off or outside of the Verizon Wireless coverage area, your message will be stored for later delivery.

The network will attempt to deliver the message for 5 days (120 hours) from the date of receipt.

Messages not delivered within 5 days will be deleted.

  6. If my device's memory is full, will I still receive messages?

If your device's memory is full, you may not be able to send or receive messages.

  7. How do I opt-out or unsubscribe to a Short Code Text Messaging program?

From your phone, text or reply STOP in the body of the message to the program's Short Code.

A message confirming the cancellation will be sent to your phone.

  8. ¿Cómo bloqueo los mensajes no deseados?

You can block unwanted texts from up to 5 numbers, internet domains or email addresses on the Bloqueos page in My Verizon. This will prevent them from contacting you. These blocks are temporary and expire after 90 days.

También puedes usar Verizon Smart Family™ to block up to 20 numbers for a monthly fee. Smart Family blocks remain in place until you change them.

Nota: Si tienes  nuevo Plan Verizon, international messaging while in the US is included with your plan.

    • If you have another device and/or app, many support the ability to add auto signatures to your messages. You'll typically find the option to create an auto signature within the messaging settings in your messaging app or on your device.

You may be able to find device-specific instructions in your User Guide (tap or click the User Guide link at the top of the Asistencia dispositivos page for your device).

Note: The characters in your auto signature count toward any message length limits.

Guardar y borrar mensajes

  1. How many messages can I store on my device at one time?

Texting storage capacity varies by device. Refer to your User Guide at the top of the Asistencia dispositivos page for details.

The number of messages that can be stored is determined by the capacity available on your device and how large the messages are. Once your inbox is full, you won't be able to receive new messages until you delete old messages.

Para liberar espacio, puedes cargar tus fotos y videos en Verizon Cloud, and delete them off your device.

  2. How long can I save my messages after I've received them?

There's no time limit on how long a message can be on your device, so you can save texts for as long as you like.

  3. I accidentally deleted a message. Can I restore it to my device?

If you use Verizon Messages (Message+) on Android®, you may be able to restore a message to your device after you deleted it.

Verizon Messages stores the last 90 days of messages for you. Learn how to restore the last 90 days of messages in Verizon Messages (Message+) for Android.

Note: Data usage applies unless you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
