Preguntas frecuentes sobre códigos QR

Información general

  1. What's a QR code?

A QR code is a type of barcode that can be read using an app and the camera on your smartphone or tablet. A QR code stores information related to the item it's found on. QR codes can be found anywhere, from catalogs and advertisements to sporting event tickets and airline boarding passes. When you scan a QR code, it typically creates an action, such as navigating to a website or calling a number.

  2. What's the difference between standard UPC Barcodes and QR Codes?

UPC Barcodes are linear black and white groupings found on most product packaging that have mainly been used by retailers to identify products. QR codes are an array of small black squares arranged in a pattern that store more complex information.

  3. Do I have to pay to use a QR reader app or scan a QR code?

QR codes are free to scan. QR code reader apps are free to download and use, but you'll be charged for uso de datos depending on your data plan.

Note: When your device is connected to the Internet using Wi-Fi, it doesn't use data from your data allowance.

  4. What is required to read a QR code?

To read a QR code, you'll need:

    • A smartphone or tablet with a camera
    • An Internet or network data connection
    • A QR code reader app
  5. How do I use my phone to scan a QR code?

You'll need a code scanning app installed on your device to scan a QR code. You can get one from your device's app store (i.e., Google Play™ Store, Apple® App StoreSM, etc.)

    To scan a QR code:

    1. Open the QR code reader app installed on your device.
    2. Scan the QR code by lining it up inside the window on your screen.
    3. The barcode is decoded on your device and specific instructions are sent to the app for appropriate action (e.g. open a specific website).

You've successfully scanned a QR code.

  6. What should I do if I can't get a QR code to scan with my QR code reader app?

There are a few things you can try if the app isn't working properly:

    • Confirm that you're trying to scan a supported code format.

    • Verifica que el código esté centrado en la pantalla y que haya bastante espacio alrededor del mismo.

    • Confirm that the code is at least 3/4" wide for a QR code and at least 1" wide for a 1D code.

    • Make sure the code is well lit, without significant shadow cover.

    • Ensure that your camera's flash isn't making the code illegible.

    • See if the phone you're using can scan UPC codes. Only cameras with auto-focus can scan UPC codes.

    • The phone you're using may require that you take a photo of the code if it doesn't scan automatically
