NumberShare FAQs

Share your smartphone's number with compatible smartwatches and other eligible 4G LTE connected devices using NumberShare. Use one number to make and take calls, get app notifications and more on all your synced devices.

Información general

Your smartphone's mobile number is the "host" and shares your number with your authorized and eligible "extension" devices.

Now you can talk and text, get emails and notifications* using the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch on the Verizon Wireless network.

*Not all features available with all host devices. For use with Android® and iOS smartphones only. Device and line limits apply. Some of Verizon's services on your smartphone may not work on extension devices.

Obtén Apple® Watch® Series 3 on America's most reliable network.

Note: Apple Watch Series 3 requires an iPhone® 6 or later with iOS 11. Both devices must be on the same Verizon Wireless account.

Use Humx to get incoming calls and place HD Voice calls to your 3 favorite contacts from your smartphone's mobile number, even if you leave your phone behind. Obtén el nuevo Humx.

Note: NumberShare on Humx is limited to voice calls and doesn't include message or app alerts.

  2. In order to share a number with NumberShare, all of your devices must be on the same Verizon Wireless standard monthly plan, like el nuevo plan Verizon. NumberShare uses your shared monthly data allowance to sync your devices.

If an extension device stops sharing and gets its own mobile number, the line access charge is $20/month.*

The Apple Watch Series 3 isn't eligible for its own mobile number. It must remain as an extension device that's paired with a compatible iPhone as the host device.

Because your smartphone (host device) already includes a line access charge, there's no additional fee for pairing or unpairing Humx on NumberShare.

Incoming calls through Humx depend on your host device's plan. However, calls answered on Humx are charged against the Humx line.

  3. If you have an HD Voice-capable and enabled smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network, it can be used as a "host" device and share your mobile number with other devices as they become eligible for NumberShare pairing.

El Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch, Apple Watch Series 3 y Humx on the Verizon Wireless network are the first devices that can be used as extensions. More devices are coming soon.

Note: Apple Watch Series 3 requires an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11. Both devices must be on the same Verizon Wireless account. The Apple Watch Series 3 cannot act in independent or standalone mode and must be paired with an iPhone.

  4. When you buy or upgrade to a device that can be used as a NumberShare extension, you'll be asked what number you'd like to share.

You can also share a number on the Administrar dispositivos conectados en Mi Verizon.

Nota: debes ser propietario de la cuenta o el administrador de la cuenta to sign up for NumberShare.

  5. To make a device an extension of an existing NumberShare-capable device:

    1. Entra a Mi Verizon.
    2. Select a device to share your number with.
    3. Click My Devices.
    4. Click Manage Connected Devices under the device in the Manage Device column.
    5. From the bottom tray, drag and drop the extension device on to the line you'd like to share.

Note: You can make your host device an extension of an existing number or move an extension device to a new or existing number.

You've successfully shared your number with an extension device.

Note: To share a number on a device, you must be an propietario de la cuenta o el administrador de la cuenta.

Note: The monthly access charge for that device will change. The change in the line access charge will be prorated reflected in your next bill.

  6. You can share up to 5 extension devices/lines for each host smartphone line. Existing account lines are limited to 10 phone lines (including smartphones, basic phones, and One TalkSM phones) and 30 total lines (including phone lines and connected device lines).

Samsung Gear S3 can be used in standalone mode. It would then act as its own "line," which applies to the 10 line limit. However, if you're using NumberShare, then it will be part of the 30 total line count (as a connected device).

Apple Watch Series 3 isn't eligible for standalone mode and is limited to the 30 total line count (includes mobile and connected device lines).

When using NumberShare with Humx, the host smartphone will only pair with 1 Humx device. The Humx device paired with NumberShare will not count towards the limit of 5 NumberShare extension devices.

Set Up and Sharing
  1. To set up your Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch:

Note: Make sure the Samsung Gear S3 app is downloaded on your host device. If needed, download the Samsung Gear app from your device's app store.

    1. Charge your Samsung Gear S3 fully. When Gear S3 is fully charged, power it on.
    2. Tap Activate on your Gear S3, then follow the onscreen instructions.
    3. Open the Samsung Gear app on your smartphone when Gear S3 prompts to begin pairing.
    4. In the app, tap Connect to Gear.
    5. Confirm the Bluetooth passcode is the same on both devices, then tap OK.
    6. Follow the instructions to complete the setup.

You've successfully set up your extension device.

To set up your Apple Watch Series 3:

Note: Apple Watch Series 3 requires iPhone 6 or later with iOS version 11.

    1. On your iPhone, tap Settings.
    2. Oprime Bluetooth.
    3. Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
    4. Turn on your Apple Watch Series 3.
    5. Tap the Apple Watch Series 3 app on your iPhone, then follow the onscreen instructions.
    6. Keep the Apple Watch Series 3 close to your iPhone until you hear a chime and feel a gentle tap from your Apple Watch Series 3.

You've successfully set up your Apple Watch Series 3.

    To set up your Humx:

    1. Ve a la página Administrar dispositivos conectados page in My Verizon to share your host mobile number with Humx.
Note: You'll need your host smartphone to complete the remaining setup process.
    2. Open the Humx app on your host smartphone.
    3. From the Menu, tap NumberShare.
    4. Scroll to Hum Contacts.
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions to add up to 3 contacts.
Note: It may take up to a minute for the contact to be uploaded to Humx.

You've successfully set up your Humx.

  2. To activate your Samsung Gear S3:

Note: Don't pair your Gear S3 with your smartphone before calling Customer Service at (877) 807-4646 to release a pending order and activate your new device.

If you purchased your Samsung Gear S3 upgrade online at VerizonWireless.com, you'll need to contact Customer Service once you've received your order. Los propietarios de cuentas o Administradores de la cuenta will first need to move their old line of service to the new Gear S3.

To activate your Apple Watch Series 3:

    1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
    2. Follow the onscreen instructions using the Apple Watch app on iPhone to pair your devices.
    3. Tap Set Up Cellular from "My Watch" in the Apple Watch app on iPhone.
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your 911 address and activate your Apple Watch Series 3.

    To activate your Humx:

    1. Después de haber saved at least 1 Hum Contact in the Humx app, the NumberShare icon will appear on the Humx speaker display when lit.
    2. Tap the NumberShare icon on the Humx speaker.
Note: You'll now see the Customer Service and Emergency Support icons on the Humx speaker replaced by green arrows. The arrows let you scroll through your saved Hum Contacts.
    3. Scroll left or right to hear a Hum Contact's name.
    4. Press the Call button to call your Hum Contact. The call will be placed over the Humx system, and the Hum Contact will see your mobile phone number in their caller ID screen.
Note: Take all incoming calls made to your host smartphone's mobile number through Humx. Additionally, Humx identifies incoming calls from your Hum Contacts list and announces them by name.

  3. First, check to see if the Gear S3 is still paired with your smartphone by swiping downward from the top edge of the phone screen. If "Connected via Bluetooth" is shown and there's no 4G icon displayed, you'll need to disconnect Bluetooth on your smartphone in order to activate your Gear S3 over the Verizon Wireless network.

Next, you'll need to enable the modem on the new Gear S3 through any of the following methods:

    1. Turn off Bluetooth on the smartphone.
    2. From your smartphone's Apps screen:
      • Tap Samsung Gear.
      • Tap More.
      • Oprime Disconnect.
    3. From the Apps screen of the Gear S3:
      • Rotate the watch bezel (ring around the watch face) to Settings.
      • Tap Connections.
      • Oprime Mobile networks.
      • Select Always On.

Note: It could take up to 45 seconds before the Gear S3 can connect to the Verizon Wireless 4G network once it disconnects from your smartphone.

Learn more about Bluetooth by visiting the Preguntas frecuentes sobre Bluetooth.

  4. No, NumberShare won't work when you're traveling internationally, but the host device will continue to work. Visit our Planificador de viajes to determine if your phone will work in a specific country and get more information about coverage and pricing options.

Currently, the extension device only works on the shared number if it's connected to the Verizon Wireless network or paired with the host device via Bluetooth.

For more information about international travel, visit the Preguntas frecuentes sobre viajes internacionales.

  5. You may deactivate the NumberShare feature at any time (higher charges may apply). If you deactivate the host line, all extension lines must be deactivated, moved to another NumberShare host line or operate independently if applicable (as a standalone which will involve a line access charge increase). When you suspend the host smartphone line, NumberShare service suspends all shared extension devices. When suspending an extension device, the host smartphone (and any other extension devices sharing that host line) still retains network service.

Note: Apple Watch Series 3 isn't eligible for its own mobile number and must remain as an extension device paired with a compatible iPhone as the host device. You can unpair it with its current host device, but you must pair it with another NumberShare-compatible device on your account or it will not work independently.

Extra fees will apply if an extension device can operate in standalone mode.

To stop sharing an extension device with NumberShare:

    1. Entra a Mi Verizon.
    2. Select a device to stop sharing your number with.
    3. Click My Devices.
    4. Click Manage Connected Devices under the device in the Manage Device column.
    5. Drag the extension device from the line and onto the device tray at the bottom of the screen.

Note: Your device will now operate with an independent number and will incur a $20/month line access charge.

You've successfully stopped sharing your number with a device.

  6. Yes, you can share your Verizon Wireless number with non-NumberShare devices, like tablets and non-Verizon devices, using Mensajes de Verizon (Message+). However, you don't need to use the Message+ app when the devices are NumberShare-capable.

Eligible Apple® users can share a number with iOS Support of Single Phone Number for Multiple Devices. Learn more at the Preguntas frecuentes sobre Voz HD para iOS.

Note: Sharing your Verizon Wireless number with non-NumberShare devices will incur a line access fee of $20/month per device.

  7. You can make a 911 call on NumberShare extension devices whenever you have a cellular connection. Emergency 911 calls operate differently if an extension device is Wi-Fi Calling-enabled, you are outside of cellular coverage and only Wi-Fi is available. If you plan to have only your extension device (such as a NumberShare-enabled watch) without taking your paired host phone along, you should update your 911 US address on your paired phone based on where you will be located. This is the location that will be given to emergency services when you call 911 from the extension device (e.g., your watch). You can go to your phone's Settings and change your 911 address at any time. We provide enhanced location information to emergency call takers but cannot guarantee your precise location. Factors such as weather, terrain and buildings may affect mobile service and the ability to calculate the caller's location, particularly for 911 calls placed indoors. If possible you should always tell the emergency call taker your location. NumberShare cannot be used to support 911 calls over TTY devices. Alternative accessible means of reaching 911 include: (1) using a TTY or captioned telephone service directly from a cellular or landline telephone; (2) sending a text message to 911 (in areas where text-to-911 is available); or (3) using IP-based relay services, such as IP captioned telephone service or IP Relay from a wireless or landline data connection.

Solución de problemas
  1. Note: If you're unable to make or take calls, be sure the device you want to use is powered on.

    • Turn both devices off and on.
    • Sign in to My Verizon and select the device you want to check.

Note: If it's an extension device, see whether it's sharing a number. If it's a host device, see what extension devices are sharing its number.

    • Try making an outgoing call from the device. When the device that you called starts ringing, it should show the shared number.
    • Try making an incoming call to the shared number from another device. All the devices that are connected to the network for that shared number should ring.

    • The ability to make and receive texts is only available when the Gear S3's host smartphone is powered on and has a working internet connection.

    • On the Samsung Gear app installed on your host device, turn on Remote Connection:
      • From the Apps screen of the smartphone, tap Samsung Gear.
      • Oprime Configuración.
      • Tap Gear Connection.
      • Tap Remote Connection.
Note: This feature must be turned on if you want to remotely connect the Gear S3 to your smartphone when Bluetooth isn't available.

    • Additional steps:
      • Check whether calling is working properly.
      • Check to see if incoming messages appear on all devices that share the number.

Note: This should work if the host device is a Samsung smartphone that's powered on and connected to the network, and the extension device is also powered on and connected to the host device via Bluetooth. You may notice some limitations in other scenarios.

  2. No, NumberShare with Humx is only for voice calls, and doesn't include messages or app alerts.

  3. Moving in and out of Bluetooth range of your host phone while on a call on the extension device will cause the call to fall back to the host device. For now, if you're going out without the host device, you'll want to wait until you're out of range before you make a call from your extension device.

  4. Yes, you can use a Bluetooth headset with the extension device, but we don't recommend it. Using a Bluetooth headset with an extension device may interfere with communication between your extension and the host devices.

  5. Some of your smartphone's features won't work on your extension devices. These features include:

    • Verizon Smart Family™, extension devices
      • For example, if you placed call restrictions for your child's host device, the child will be able to send and receive calls despite those restrictions on any extension devices made available to the child.
    • Transferencia de llamadas
    • Transferencia de llamadas sin contestación
    • Transferencia de llamadas ocupado
    • Voicemail (access by calling your host smartphone number and PIN)
    • Identificador de llamadas con nombre
    • timbres para llamadas entrantes.

Note: Calls and messages to and from blocked contacts won't be blocked on the extension device when sharing with the host smartphone.

  6. Yes, you can make a 911 call on NumberShare extension devices whenever you have a cellular connection. Calls to 911 are routed and answered according to guidelines set by local public safety officials in your area. 911 calls should only be used for true emergencies.

Mobile phones/devices are affected by the environment.

NumberShare cannot be used with or support 911 calls over TTY devices. Alternative accessible means of reaching 911 include: (1) using a TTY or captioned telephone service directly from a cellular or landline telephone; (2) sending a text message to 911 (in areas where text-to-911 is available); or (3) using IP-based relay services such as IP captioned telephone service or IP Relay from a wireless or landline data connection.

  7. If you call emergency 911 from an extension device (e.g., a connected watch), you'll be able to receive the 911 call back from emergency responders, but only on the extension device.
