I want to use a prepaid nano sim card in my iphone6 on my next visit to Australia. Will this cause any problem with my verzion account and when I return and put the original verzion sim card back will my phone continue to work as before?

You can do exactly that and it will be WAAAAAAAAAY cheaper. I used my iPhone 5 with a prepaid SIM in Slovakia.
Just be sure not to lose your Verizon SIM or you will have to make a visit to a store to get a new one.
