How do I change a mass text to a group message?

I've had a group message with my classmates for the longest time and I would normally receive most of everybody's replies within that one message. I could send a reply and everybody would see it on the group message. Now, it keeps sending my replies as individual messages to everybody. It's classified as a "Mass Text" under everybody's name. I want it to be a "Group Message". I can change it, but it keeps reverting back to mass text. I just need help keeping it as a group message. I have a S7, but I don't think that matter too much.

i create groups in gmail contacts on my pc & sync contacts to my phone.

the groups show up at the top when you're in contacts/people.

Use GroupMe. It is a free app designed specifically for group messaging. Everyone can download it easily.
