Can I use a Vodafone nano-sim card in my iPhone 5 without problems?

We are going to the UK.  Can we use a Vodafone nano-sim card in an iPhone 5 and 5s?  Do either of these phones need to be unlocked?

If your i5 and i5s are already out of their contracts, then you have nothing to worry (if they are under device payment I believe they're unlocked by default as well) but to be sure it won't hurt to ask Verizon specialists, just go to this link http://vzw.com/contactus then use the chat function, the rep will ask for your IMEI and then check it on their database
