Mackdaddy59 we want you to understand your data usage. Do you see the wifi icon at the top of your device? Have you set up your home network http://spr.ly/65898Oyi1 ?

Hi mackdaddy59, with Comcast internet, what are you using for a Modem? Is it supplied by them, if so how old is it? Are you using a Router with Comcast?
In Settings > Cellular when scrolling all the way down is Wi-Fi assist turned ON or OFF

mackdaddy59, the Comcast Xfinity modem if supplied by them and current should show when looking at it. WiFi Capable Dual-Band 802.11ac if not you should pick up a newer one from them.
In Settings > Cellular when you scroll all the way to the bottom you'll see Wi-Fi Assist. This would need to be turned OFF. If not your iPhone would choose between the faster data connection between Wi-Fi or Verizon Cellular.
With Xfinity it depends on what you've chosen for internet Mbps the location of the Modem and the iPhone.
