Why is my iPhone 6s turning off with battery still remaining?

About 5 days ago my 5 month old iPhone 6s started randomly shutting down with battery life still left(30-50%), it will only turn back on once connected to the charger. It did not get wet, so that is not the issue. Do I contact Verizon or Apple about this issue? Thanks!

OK I was thinking that the battery indicator itself could have possibly been giving a incorrect reading at 30% to 50% where the battery was actually completely run down. And sometimes when that occurs the battery indicator can be corrected by draining the battery all the way down and doing a full recharge. But in this case the phone stays on after removing from the charger. So that seems to indicate that this maybe something more than an incorrect battery indicator reading.

The only two things I can think of is trying to drain the battery all the way down and fully recharging with some slim chance it might help or restoring the phone to factory settings with iTunes. Other than that perhaps a visit to an Apple store they have a good warranty.

Leelee838, once turned back on after connecting to the charger and then removing from the charger right away, does the phone stay on?

yes, it will stay on once removed from the charger.

Have you tried contacting an apple specialist for this issue? I hope this is not a hardware problem (because that one costs a bit) but if it's a software problem, an OS update or OS restoration might be able to fix it. Try to reach their specialist via http://getsupport.apple.com (also check if you have insurance you can contact Verizon or Asurion to check it) Verizon: 800-416-8894 Asurion: 888-881-2622

I haven't, but will contact them; thank you. I wanted to avoid a trip to the Verizon store if it was something I should take up with Apple. Hoping it's not a hardware issue 😕

Tried both and no luck, to Apple I go. Thank you for the suggestions.

Leelee838, I want to make sure that your phone is able to keep up with your needs. Were you able to take this to a Apple store? Did you do the factory reset?
