SMS / MMS Issues with Sites and Apps Only!

Unable to receive SMS/MMS codes or text from popular sites and apps. I've read this same question asked on both droid and apple device forms without an answer so I'm going to provide so lengthy details and hope the community or VZW staff can supply us with answers and use this page as a future resource.


My Personal status:

I've checked my Device Settings, did some SMS/MMS Troubleshooting and had my VZW account reviewed with the VZW technical and trouble shooting support staff team. Now they've created a support ticket to fix this issue, but were now in hour 60 of the 24 they said it would take.

EXAMPLES OF THE ISSUE

Google (Adding a New Recovery Phone Number under my Account)

Site Asks: To make sure everything works, we'll send you an SMS with a verification code.

Site Responded: Sorry, we can't fulfill this request at this time. Please try again later or use a different phone number.

WhatsApp (MUST Add and Verify a Mobile # before using this App)

App Asks: Please confirm your country code and enter your phone number.

App Responded: We have sent you an SMS with a code to the number (+X XXX-XXX-XXXX). [5 minutes later] Sorry you didn't get your SMS code. Would you like to try alternative sign-up Methods?

Today I requested an SMS code from several companies (list below) and not one sent me a message with my code. HELP!

Google (alexa global rank: 1)

Yandex (alexa global rank: 20)

PayPal (alex gobal rank: 40)

WhatsApp (#4 on Top Free iPhone Apps in the AppStore)

UPDATE: No Answer

It has been determined it's not the phone, the verizon network or my number.

I'm ready to leave Verizon.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately you didn't mark your post as a question, so the VZW reps on this community won't even see it because it wasn't funneled to their reading queue. As for why no one else from the 2 million community members responded with a suggestion, I don't have an answer. I know I don't read every single post on the forum and miss quite a few discussions.

As for your issue, have you checked your MyVerizon account online to see if there are any blocks on the line. I know you can block Premium text messages, text messages from email and text messages from the web. Perhaps one of these blocks are causing the problem. Another thought would be to have you entire text message feature reset from the Verizon Wireless side of the network, but you have to call customer service at 1-800-922-0204 from a landline or *611 from your phone and ask for it.

When I first switched to Verizon from AT&T I didn't receive short codes either. It eventually worked itself out. Were you receiving them and then it stopped?

My suggestion is to follow the link in #2 here: Spam Controls FAQs | Verizon Wireless

Once you signed into My Verizon make sure you do not have the option checked to "block all text messages sent from the web."

Outside of this I'm not sure what could cause this. I use an iPhone 6 as well and have had no issues with receiving codes from Whats Up, Google, etc.

During my support ticket with Verizon I had someone from Advanced Technical Support at VZW use my credentials and personally login to my account to make sure all my settings are perfect. They are perfect. No text messages are being blocked.

I've worked with GoDaddy and they tell me their shortcodes are showing up as delivered, Verizon closed my ticket and said the shortcodes are showing up as delivered too. However It's not delivered to my my phone.

That's when they closed my ticket and Advance Technical Support then said:

1) it could be my phone - I told her I've used 2 different iPhone 6S's and 1 iPhone 6.

2) it could be your phone number - I told them I already changed my phone number in September and the problem is still going on(this was not an easy thing to do, I had that number for 12 years!!).

I have no idea what to do!!!!!

Yes I've received shortcodes and still do from companies that know my number. However It randomly stopped working and now any new account or signup I want to add my number under for 2-Step Verification or just regular phone verification it no longer works.

I have to admit why your number is being blocked is strange. I actually have several of the blocks I mentioned active on my account and I still get the messages from Google as a part of the two step verification on my Google account.

In your previous troubleshooting, did Verizon Wireless ever reset the text message feature from their end?
