I am just dealing with Asurion now. Here's the thing I had my screen replaced then it started to glitch out and now they sent over a replacement device. All fine and dandy but wait! I need to send my phone that I already paid in full back to them? Or I will face a $300 fee? Really? A phone that already bought that belongs to me. hmmm... Also just to clarify this is the first time I have used this insurance within 5 years. Do the math: 15 bucks a month times 12months times 5 years equals, not worth it!

And what do you think happens if your auto insurance totals your car? What's left of the car belongs to the insurance company and they send you a check, less deductible,  for whatever the Kelley blue book value is at the time of its demise. This is no different.
  Personally I do not believe insurance is a good purchase.   It does not make good financial sense over just putting the money aside every month yourself. However if you are implying that it is not what you signed up for, or a scam, that would be incorrect.

Insurances are probably the BEST investment anyone can make. You think the average american is going to put money aside?? You are unfortunately dreaming, though I wish that wasn't the unfortunate truth. I will never be a day without my insurance, thank you Verizon!

The same thing happened to me. When I purchased the insurance from Verizon the sales person did not say anything about refurbished phones, he just said in case of loss or damage I will be issued a replacement with deductible. Now after paying 15 dollar for 30 months (450 dollars) and paying 199 deductible they send me a refurbished fake looking phone. Basically I don't trust this phone to be an iPhone,  it looks like the fake iPhones they sell on the internet, the accessories are fake, its a ripoff

Poor customer service right there you just simply handed off the problem instead of addressing the low quality of assurion insurance. I have been ripped off by assurion too many times to continue to contribute to the version assurion lack of concern or quality

Asurion is the insurance provider for almost every carrier that offers it.   It’s not mandatory.  If your not happy, don’t use it.  Verizon doesn’t control Asurion, and you agreed to non original parts.  read section 4 and 5

Verizon didn’t break your phone.   They are not responsible for it, that’s why insurance exists.  The response would be the same from any carrier.

I agree... and not just once, multiple times in this thread the Community Manager’s response has been “deal with it, what are you going to do” essentially. As Verizon’s partner, doesn’t it make sense for Verizon to escalate the specific concerns to Asurion, if customer care is a priority? While AT&T probably uses Asurion as well, my best bet is going to AT&T or Sprint and getting AppleCare. Comfort and Complacency apparently have bred contempt for customer concerns. Not for any other reason than Verizon’s complacency & expectation that it’s okay to give a “get with it or get lost” response, multiple times, I’m out ASAP. Money talks, not posts, is what I’ve just figured out.

@SuthernChk

What response were you expecting to get? It's not a carrier's job to make sure someone doesn't break their phone or prevent it from being stolen.

There is no probably, all carriers DO use Asurion. Asurion coverage is NOT mandatory. Verizon does NOT own Asurion. If an iPhone user wants coverage, they go Apple Care.

Asurion is not “Verizon’s partner”.  Anymore than they are T-mobile, AT&T or Amazon’s partner.  They offer insurance through Carriers and retailers as a convenient way to buy, pay and claim.
None of the mentioned retailers tells Asurion how to run their business.  You were informed how insurance works, including the possibility of refurbished parts and phones.  You did read, and now cry foul.
