my iphone5 was just stolen. my phone was protected by the four digit code to open. Do I need to lock/cleanse the phone since the thief shouldn't be able to get in? I am concerned about cleansing it because it kill my ability to track the thief if he/she turns it on
Second question, dose my Verizon insurance cover theft? if it does, what do I need to prove it was stolen?

I'm not sure how long to wait before wiping remotely. But yes, insurance covers theft. Because there's really no way to prove what happened, once your phone is replaced, Verizon will blacklist the old one's ESN (electronic serial number) so it cannot be activated by someone else.

Oh my, jstrausct. Stolen phones are certainly no fun to deal with. Having a lock code on your device is a fantastic way to protect your information. Have you already tried Apple's Find My iPhone http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my-iphone.html option to see if you can track the phone down? If the phone is powered on and service is still active, it's been an easy way for other iPhone users to locate their device. You can also use Apple's remote wipe from that same site to clear out all of your personal information before suspending the line in My Verizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc. Once you report a phone lost or stolen in My Verizon, we'll stop the service to that phone immediately and add the phone to our stolen database so it can't be used again.
If you have insurance, the best place to look for answers to what's covered or to begin your claim is at http://bit.ly/07CrqPK. Asurion Insurance is great at taking you through the easy steps to get a replacement phone so you can get your wireless life back to normal.
Thanks and good luck!
