obviously im in that boat where i want to save my unlimited data.. running the numbers and such over two years i would actually save money by not changing my plan and upgrading.. i do not have a family plan at this time and verzion wont allow me to add a line without again losing my unlimited data.. i was just wondering if anyone was going to the same route?

I only have the LTE 4gb for 30 dollars and don't wanna lose that changing to this phone. Gonna have to pay full price anyways.

just my hunch, but i suspect they will do away with unlimited all together.....even for those of us who go off contract, within 1-2 years, so when i am due for an upgrade, i'll likely use it and just select the old individual 2 gig data plan for $30/month. i have access to wifi at home and work so i'll really only use data on the road. i can stay under 2 gigs even if i stream music in the car and perriodically use data when i'm not home or at work. i would pay full retail (for whatever i end up buying) if i didn't think they would cut off unlimited data soon.

see im not sure they will do that because they are getting paid either way and the actual number of us that are willing to shell out the extra money out front will be pretty slim.. im not off contract yet anyway i wont be able to get an upgrade till early oct. but they told me today id lose my unlimited if i added a line (my orginal idea) because im not in an old family plan so its buy it outright for me.

well right now that might be the case but as upgrades come up not as many people are going to have cash on hand to pay for the phone upfront.. with me running the numbers it will cost me about 30 bucks more a month to dump my plan thats 740 over two years plus the cost of the phone so in my situation it makes more sense to pay upfront.. not everyone is like that

Yes. Out of principle.

In fact after being with verizon for over 20 years I might switch to AT&T or sprint. If this is what they think of my $290 a month I've been paying them for 20+/- years for the 4 phones and aircard I have then F them.

That's $3480 a year or $69,600.

At least AT&T grandfathers which is the right thing to do. I'm so sick of Verizon nickel and diming for everything. They have ALWAYS done this and the only reason I put up with it is because I couldn't take my number with me, well the government did something good for once and made it possible. I've been with verizon so long they used to be GTE or something like that. THAT is a long time and if this is customer service?

Can you hear me now verizon? THAT'S THE DOOR SLAMMING AS I LEAVE!!!

Better yet maybe I will swear off cellphones all together. That 69k looks pretty nice!

Customer service is more than being friendly on the phone when I am paying you, it is showing thanks to a loyal customer by your actions. Making me buy an iphone for full price to keep a deal we made?

That ISN'T customer service. That is typical big corporation BS.

Nope, not paying full price or any price for any Apple anything. They've gone way over the top with their suing and litigation and buying up more patents to protect themselves and sue some more.

I think that eventually they will cut it off, but it may take a while (I bought two phones at full price last month, and I had to think about this a lot).   Basically, this option eventually creates a pool of people who need (or think they need) unlimited data, who are likely to be the biggest data hogs.  Once they see the size of the pool, and the average data use, Verizon can do a simple calculation, will forcing usage fees offset subsidy costs (and taking into account that some might flee to whatever other carriers still offer some version of unlimited).   With the upgrade fee, subsidy costs are decreasing so it is more likely that the extra usage fees will win.

Well, that's my take, with no data to back it up.
