So I started to notice that month after month since I got this iPhone 5s my data usage has increased. WHY? I had the iPhone 4 without LTE and for months I was using less than 1GB of data with 2 phones on my contract. Why with this phone, in this month alone I am using almost 3GB of data for this month. I reviewed my recent data usage for today’s date, 12/11/2013, and I want know why do I have data usage at 3:43 AM for 20.36MB of data when I’m SLEEP AT THAT TIME!!!!! Also during the time while I’m at work and barely use my phone I used 72.27MB worth of data. I’m at work, so please someone explain to me what DATA was used during that time??? I have turned the refreshing apps feature off and also limited the apps that use cellular data as well so don’t feed me that generic response either. I want facts and a solution to this problem because if things don’t change by the end of January, Verizon will get drop and I’ll just take my business to AT&T where you get unlimited data for a cheaper cost. SO please have someone, preferably a supervisor or manager call me or respond to my email or as stated Verizon will get drop.

First of all, this is a customer forum, not a venue for customer service.  Verizon reps do read posts from time to time, but posting to this board doesn't guarantee a response from customer service.  To address your issue with data, if your phone is on, regardless of the time, it will use data for emails that come in and/or applications like Facebook, Twitter, or actually any other apps that update, at any time of day.  Since you said you turned off the app updates, that would not be affecting you.  While you are at work, if your phone is not set to use wifi, it will use data just sitting there receiving emails and status updates and things like that.  For most people, this is a big reason to have a smartphone...to have email and social media up to the minute and available in a device that is portable.  Do you switch to wifi at home? Are you ever using wifi at work? While I understand that you don't want to only use wifi, it is a great alternative to data if it is available, and a lot of times it is faster. Unfortunately there is no way I am aware of to see precisely what is being done with the data use, only the sessions and MBs used.  The actual content of the data, I believe, is not viewable.  I realize you stated you did not want "that generic response," but it is the truth.  Your phone is constantly using data (wifi or cellular) if it is on.  If there is no wifi available, and you have the cellular data enabled, then it is using data.  If you want to speak with a supervisor or manager, you will have to call customer service.  Keep in mind that requesting a manager in no way guarantees you will get what you want, although most angry customers seem to think so. Just based on your post you want your phone to not use so much data, which YOU must monitor and control.  If I am close to my monthly allowance (which happens very infrequently) I turn off cellular data altogether and use wifi only.  Obviously this is an option if you have wifi at home, work, wherever, which I do.   The solution to your issue here is monitoring and control of your phone's cellular data use by YOU.  Verizon will let you use however much data you want, and bill you for overages.  You have to manage your usage and costs within the plans and pricing available.

Yep, like flutterfly said, apps use data all the time. And since your on LTE now it transfers data faster and allows more data to be used. And AT&T does not offer unlimited data anymore either so.........

My findings here...  There is a solution, you have to manually go in and deactivate all the automated cellular-LTE features and apps.
