1. no choice in phone size, keyboard. Yeah I get that. I would like my iphone to be 4 inch, but anything bigger than that is bulky. As for the keyboard, the iphone has one of the best out there.

At this point, this has become a battle of opinions.  I have small hands and I don't consider anything bigger than 4 inches bulky.  As someone who prefers word tracing keyboards and also prefers the numbers and letters to be on the same screen, the iPhone keyboard is far from being the best out there. After that last statement, you need to re-read your own forst sentence. Your opinion. I find the iPhone keyboard just fine (when I'm not using Siri)

All of my sentences contained words indicating opinion, such as consider and prefers.  I don't understand why you argued this point.

4. no sideloading without jailbreaking. Sideloading is a perfect receipe for malware and viruses. We have 500000+ apps in the app store and almost all of them are quality apps. I do not want to sideload an app that will negatively affect the performance of my phone. I paid $200 for my phone and I do not want to spoil it with a rogue app.

I think that no one wants to "spoil it with a rogue app".  That said, there are many quality apps that are not part of the Apple App Store or the Android Market that enhance the use of my phone, rather than spoil it.  Swype is one of them.  You have to read the reviews of the apps in all cases, and not just blindly trust what is in the App Store.  While the apps may be of high quality in regards to the programming, some are silly in purpose.  I need serious talking caller ID, not Santa reading from a pre-determined list of common names to try to identify the caller.  The Android Market has more than one serious talking caller ID program.  The Apple App Store had none the last time I checked. Judging by iPhone sales, you are in the minority for that requirement. I didn't buy a Kia because I needed something bigger. A comparison point, not a detriment

While iPhone sales are high, Android sales are higher.  How do you calculate minority?  Even so, I never said that I spoke for anyone other than myself.  I don't get the reason that you would argue this point, either.

7. no removable/swappable battery. Wrong. You can get a battery case that can give you up to 100% charge for your iphone. I have one and it gives me up to a 80% from a dead iphone. It is called a boost case. There is boost case now that is 2200 mah. It will give you more than 100% charge to your iphone.

This line of thinking seems to contradict your overall philosophy of an iPhone being better.  One point is that you said that anything over 4 inches for screen size is bulky.  I would counter that the power cases that I have seen make the phone bulky.  Second, if you paid $200 for a phone, why spend around another $100 just to power it?  I spent less than $20 on the extended battery for my Sensation.  Based on percentage of the lower cost, that is a huge difference. That's ASSuming you need an extended battery. I know of NO one I know that needs an extended battery for their iPhone, including me. This is your cue to start going on about the iPhone 4S' battery issues. Even with that being the case, I still get 2 more hours than I ever did with the Bionic. My girlfriend just got an iPhone 4 and she went 4 DAYS before the battery was down to 28% (very little data use, admittedly)

The secondary poster (SP) is an iPhone user that has a power case.  I was addressing what the SP's sentiments were.  I have a friend with an iPhone; both she and her husband have Mophie JuicePaks (sp?).  The battery life that she gets is low, but that is because of her extremely high level of usage. I guess you haven't followed my posts, as I would never put down the iPhone's battery.  I have gotten 10 days out of a single charge on an iPhone battery, and was only down to 12%.  While that obviously didn't involve extensive use of the phone, I did have 2-3 hours of active usage time on that charge.

8. no sd card slot. Why do you need an SD card when you can get a 16, 32, or 64 gig iphone? Do you really need more than 64 gig? Besides SD cards create problems. Go read on the Bionic and Atrix forums how Apps are disappearing when stored on the SD card. Apple use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) to creating handsets. Having two storage areas on your phone and having the OS alternate between them creates problems like I told you. Just have one large storage area and be done with it.

Once again, if you want additional storage on an iPhone, you have to pay $100 more for each capacity level bump.  That is ridiculous considering that 16GB SD cards are sold for less than $20 and 32GB cards are less than $40.  This is a rip-off from Apple. Hardware, my friend, hardware. The "ripoff" moniker is just your opinion (and not a bad one, but apparently, it rings hollow with a lot of people. So now are you going to break out the "sheeple" argument and start throwing around accusations of whatever Kool-aid they are drinking?). And I've heard of several memory cards going bad and owners of Android phones losing data from that card going bad. I've never seen an error message on an iPhone about its memory not recognized or not formatted.  Again, I do not attempt to speak for the masses, only myself.  However, I do recognize that just because "I haven't seen x" doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.  Also, just because I see "y" doesn't mean that it is a widespread occurrence.  And, more evidence that you don't follow my posts is that I don't refer to any fans as sheeple or people who drink Kool-aid.  I know that people come to a decision about purchasing smartphones in different ways than I do.  I'm sure that we also use different methods to determine which clothes to buy, car to purchase, etc.  If people like iPhones, they like iPhones.  The title of this thread invited me to share my personal experience, and that's what I did.

Also considering that some people have multiple devices that they would use SD cards in, this makes music and photo storage and sharing easier.  Having SD card slots also reduces the need to use iTunes, for those of us that don't like it.  The SD cards haven't created problems with the Android devices that I have used.  Lucky you. KISS can work for some people.  However, I don't consider myself simple or stupid, and therefore don't need to be coddled in this way. There's nothing wrong with you preferring an Android phone. Do you hold that opinion about people that prefer iPhones?

Of course not, since I own an iPhone.  If I were to buy a television, I would look for something that was easier than an iPhone to operate.  Why, because I don't care enough about watching television to trouble myself with learning complex controls.  I like cell phones and, therefore, don't mind a little trouble to learn how to operate them.  I actually enjoy it.

My point is not to prove that the Android phone is bad, but to steer this conversation back to the middle. I've had as much experience with Android phones as anyone. The Bionic broke me (for the time being, anyway, I haven't ruled out ever getting another Android phone, but with the current crop of phones and this joke of a phone release concerning the Galaxy Nexus, I'll stay with iPhones for the time being. And for Heaven's sake, if Android works for you, then you have my blessing and best wishes.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I didn't seek your blessing, as only God can bless.

There. Argue with that.  I don't mind if I do.

there are MANY reasons i prefer android but don't really feel the need to list them all and bicker about them. also, i think the iphone is great for many users, just not me. the primary reason i choose android is because i have choices. i don't care to wait a year to see what will be on the one iOS device that i can purchase. i'm an admitted phone geek. i love to play around with them and easily get bored with my devices. what i like about android is that if i get a device that i don't care for, i can exchange it for a different android......and when i get bored with that, i can choose from a half dozen or so to purchase. i think iphones and androids are remarkable devices.......i think some of the respective "fanboys" of said devices are not so remarkable.

As an over middle aged ADDer I adore my I-phone.  Had to save up to actually use it as a PHONE, lol! but I've used it as a pda since and the kindle ap font is better than the actual kindle.  I'm just now using it as a phone and love it.  don't carry around the two phones.  All my notes, (instead of books and posties) in one place.  For an ADDer, that is very important.  I know the other phones have these options, but the way it's layed out is just perfect for me. I need a light touch, which I know irritates some others. This is the first I've heard of it needing anti-virus ware.  I naively assumed that the marketplace would have checked the aps for viruses. Thanks!  I'll be careful about what I download. I had compases, notebooks and various other things that aps now replace in my purse/luggage, lol!  I just wish these companies would have family share or device/share data packages so I can get my i-pad and stay with verizon.  I did get a good deal at a mall kiosk on my data package which customer service couldn't give me.  Now I can use my I-phone because of it.  Hope the powers-that be get the message! - Linda

I did have to get used to there not being an arrow to move the curser, but I didn't have to be a rocked scientist to figure out how to do it never read a manual.  The trade-off for easy touch for my poor fingers is not a problem for me.  Again it's what you need/like in a phone that matters.  Some like the I-phone features, some don''t.  There are so many aps that I never missed the widgets. I can go and turn off the data feature so as not to accidentally use more than I need and wi-fi is everywhere (pretty much). If I was on a long trip I'd just turn on vz navigator and data and I'd be good to go.  Just need an I-pad and the world is my oyster! ;D  I am so spoiled. I'm not rich and can't get everything that comes down the pike, so I have to choose carefully and do a lot of research.  This is the phone for me. :smileyvery-happy:smileyvery-happy:

AZSALUKI, there are (were) MANY reasons I preferred Android.

But after 16 months of bugs, glitches, exchanges, reboots, resets and updates that crashed my phone, or rendered it buggier, I will be surprised if I don't switch to another OS come upgrade time.

I don't want to write a diatribe (again) about this phone, or Android, in general.

"Choice" means little when you lose your personal "stuff" every time you have to do a hard reset and you have the fun of recreating all your folders, homescreens, etc.

Choice of other manufacturers is a good point. But, let's see. If I finally reached my wits end with this Droid X, I could have gotten a Thunderbolt or Bionic? That's like going from the sewer to the septic tank. No thanks.

I don't want to tinker with my phone. I want my phone to work. Period.

If getting an iphone will make me equal to soccer moms and ifans, so be it.

I haven't jumped ship, yet. Just here looking over to the other side and the grass sure looks greener.

Nothing personal. My disgust and disdain is towards my experience with this phone.

No thanks. my tbolt is flawless and my incredible was flawless, but i know many other people have had problems. i see plenty of people on the iphone forum with problems too.

i understand. that's why much earlier in this thread i stated that i prefer android.....but i tell my family members to get an iphone. they don't want to mess with custimizing, 3rd party launchers, widgets, etc (much less flashing roms). my experience has been 2 years of a great experience, but i know that's not the case for everyone.

one other thing that nobody has mentioned is accessories. there are some more aoption for androids now than a couple of years ago.....but for the most part, other manufacturers design accessories for the iphone. with MANY cool items out there, you can actually dock the iphone, where you have to use an auxillary input for an android (car stereos, speaker docks, alarm clocks, etc, etc)

People have messaged me privately and even come right out and said it before in another forum. The only true Android experience is through rooting.

Do you have to jailbreak an iphone to make it work reliably? My understanding is people jailbreak just to get the customization that they can't otherwise get and CAN get on Android phones.

Since both are not allowed, the point is probably mute and subject to censorship, but if it takes rooting a phone to make it function properly, something is wrong....Moto.

Bulky as in not being able to fit it in your jeans pocket. I wear a 550 levis jeans that has a small pocket within the pocket. It is a perfect fit for my iphone even with a case incluidng a battery case. I seriously doubt that any of these 4.3 inch screen handsets will fit in that pocket.

4. no sideloading without jailbreaking. Sideloading is a perfect receipe for malware and viruses. We have 500000+ apps in the app store and almost all of them are quality apps. There are many horror stories of bad apps in the android market. If I had an Android, I will only DL apps from the official Google market. Sideloading is too risky.

 5. no removable/swappable battery. Wrong. You can get a battery case that can give you up to 100% charge for your iphone. I have one and it gives me up to a 80% from a dead iphone. The power case is not bulky. I told you that I can still fit my iphone 4 in the little Levis 550 jeans pocket and not be annoyed by the phone. It fits. It is not bulky. Second the boost case sells for $40, hardly that expensive when you come down to it. There are other battery cases that are even cheaper. I got one with the same mah as the boost case with a leather holster for $40. I did not use the holster, but I could if I wanted to.

8. no sd card slot. Why do you need an SD card when you can get a 16, 32, or 64 gig iphone? Do you really need more than 64 gig? Besides SD cards create problems. Just because SD cards have not created problems for you does not mean that they have not created problems for others. As I said before, go read the Droid Bionic and Atrix forums on Android Central. Apps disappear once they are installed on SD cards. Besides, SD cards are known to fail and if they do they will wipe out your data. One central storage is better than two. Even the new Nexus has one single 32 gig storage. It does not have an SD card. Is that a portent of things to come? Maybe.
