Is the Verizon iPhone going to fall further behind?

Is the Verizon iPhone ever going to be on par with AT&T and does Verizon even care?  Interesting things going on.... First and foremost of course is the simple fact that the Verizon iPhone STILL is stuck back on iOS 4.2 and will likely never see iOS 4.3 and MAY get iOS 5 the same time as the rest of the country (and the world for that matter), but there's still a pretty fair chance that it won't.  Some opinions hold that Verizon won't see anything (software OR hardware) until its one year anniversary with Apple which is of course Feb 2012.  Why you may ask?  Well at the WWDC today, Verizon iPhone users were once again left out in the cold as ONLY iOS 4.3 users are going to get the iTunes Cloud beta.  Another noteworthy point is that Steve Jobs (despite his health issues) only makes appearances these days if he's excited about a product.  Note that he was missing from the Verizon iPhone unveiling and as Tim Cook was there instead.  So it appears pretty obvious that Jobs has no love for Verizon as sending one of his subordinates to a supposed big event speaks volumes IMO.

What else? Well let's not forget that Verizon themselves stated that it's not their problem if the next iPhone doesn't support LTE as they have plenty of options which do support their LTE network.  Which leads me into the next point.  The next iphone is rumored to not be LTE capable, BUT it will be HSPA+ capable.  What does this mean? Well it means that this variation of high speed packet 3GPP is capable of '4G' speeds and in fact both T-mobile and AT&T are already calling HSPA+ phones '4G'.  (Don't get me started on what 4G really is as Verizon's LTE is really just another variation of 3G)  Verizon does not support HSPA+ (or even HSPA for that matter).  So if this is true then that means that the next iPhone may hit speeds of possibly 21 mbs with AT&T (and possibly T-mobile) while the so-called Verizon iPhone will be crawling (and that's an understatement) behind at a max of 2mbs (if you're lucky... more likely around 1mbs.)

Ok... there's my 2 cents... please reply with comments, corrections or any opinion on this matter.

The only potentially good sign is that from what I've been seeing the iOS 5 beta that's available for developers now does in fact exist for the CDMA (Verizon) version of the iPhone.

As for 4G, technically speaking LTE is actually the "true" 4G, compared to all the other stuff that AT&T and T-Mobile are calling 4G right now. AT&T themselves are moving to LTE as well as the real 4G technology, but they are somewhat behind Verizon so they don't really have much built just yet.

Please contact apple.

Anyway if you purchased an iphone on verizon you already bought a phone that was 3-4 years out of date.. you started behind the curve, why would you catch up in 6 months

Years out of date? No point of going down that path. As for keeping the same phones up to date with the same updates/options, well, that only makes rational and good sense.

To be honest, When the verizon iphone first came out, I thought it would be the most talked about event in the tech world but the further we get, the more we see how far back the verizon iphone really is.  I cancelled my att contract early, paid 375 dollars to do so and what do I get in return? an os that is sub standard and data that moves slower than my pet turtle, nick.

Why are we not recieving the latest and greatest features to iOS? why do we still not have the nitro safari browser? and why can I test drive iCloud beta with all my other iOS and mac osx devices except for my verizon iphone? Yes, it's not entirely verizon's fault but as america's largest network, you would think vzn would take some kind of action to help bring it's customers what they deserve and are paying for.  ANY WHY DOES MY FRIEND WHO HAS AN ANDROID(GOD, I HATE THAT STUPID GREEN CHARACTER) GET TWICE THE DATA SPEEDS AS ME WHEN HE'S ALSO ON VERIZON??? I feel my data usage is being throttled. And if that's true, verizon  should really allow us out of our contracts without fee because I was not advised my data, which is already slow to start, would be slowed down even further because the carrier is worried their network might overload. This is how vzn handles avoiding ATT's woes? not by having a better network that can handle heavy volume? WOW WAS I MISLED. I can't believe im saying this but att is looking better and better everyday. Not to mention their new unlimited any mobile plan that could save me alot of money every month.

At least, apple or vzn should issue a statement of some sort so their customers at least know what to expect in the near future regarding features and updates.

Sounds like people are too impatient to me.  It took around 6 months for the iPad to be in line with the other iOS devices...  Just because they are named the same they ARE different devices.

There's a much bigger difference between an iPhone and an iPad than there's between a GSM iPhone and a CDMA iPhone--really the only difference being the different radio chip, which doesn't exactly affect the rest of the phone's functionality, which is what iOS is mostly for, not so much the radio part. So the comparison isn't exactly in the same league, even if there might be a bit to it. That said, even with the iPad Apple announced that the OS is going to be behind and will be brought together in the fall (with iOS 4.2)--in this case, with the newest CDMA iPhone there hasn't been a single word, let alone an announcement of any sort, about any of it, from Apple or Verizon. You'd think the newest customers would deserve just a little more.

Exactly people are just being impatient and wanting to feel special. I have two iPhones and regardless of what isn't being said I know we'll get the update.

I don't think the concern is really about iOS 5, it's more about iOS 4.3 and basically the fact that it doesn't seem to be coming to VZW iPhones and that there's really no word about it one way or another (which is the least that decent companies would, or certainly should, do for their customers, especially new ones that are coming in large numbers for the newest and lastet product).
