TeresaW_28625, I want to make sure that we get those phones up and running for you! Here is a couple of things that I would suggest on trying to do. First, with your husbands phone can you please have him dial *228, call, when the recording comes on have him select option 2. Let that play some music for awhile. Once that is completed please power cycle the phone if it doesn't do it on it's own.

With your iPhone 5 the *228 will not work. So, the way we can update your phone is to go into Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings (all of your pictures, apps, and contacts will stay in the phone). The phone should then power cycle. If you do connect your iPhone to any wi-fi networks you would need to re-enter in the wi-fi passwords again.

Once these steps have been completed on both phones please test out the voice/text and see if it's any better. Please keep us posted.
