A shattered phone can't be replaced by the warranty process which a Verizon Wireless corporate store can handle. Shattered phones go through either Asurion or Apple Care depending on which insurance coverage you selected. Yes there is a monthly premium and a deductible with using Asurion. They gave you the right information. The insurance claim has to be filed by yourself through Asurion.
