The days of getting discounted pricing on mobile phones in exchange for being locked into a two year contract are pretty much over.
The options now are to either pay full price up front, or, stretch the full price out over a two year period.
As the CSA mentioned and deloused reiterated, upgrading will get you a new phone with updated circuitry, cameras and so forth...in addition to being able to receive newer versions of operating systems that might not be supported on older phones.
Weather or not the benefits are worth the cost is for each individual to decide.
