Just mt guess.

Best suggestion is to use the Verizon DIrect forum over at DSLReports.com to try to resolve (all communications are only viewable by you and the forum so you can give details that are required).

As for Kudos, I acknowledge that, but I'm not there yet. . Honestly I don't know the answer.  I have been using a WD MY BOOK AV 1Tb since VZ enabled eSATA.  My guess would be to get a maximum 2Tb eSATA drive that does not have a sleep mode (or that can be disabled) since the WD DVR extender drives appear to be no longer available (these are the drives that show up on the "recommended" list - never updated from the original options). Anyone else have a drive recommendation?

Without a box you will only recieve the local channels (with the exception of when a channel like HBO, Starz, etc. runs a free preview weekend and the channel is then sent clear for the preview).

You guys are preaching to the choir here.  Been with FiOS since 2007, on this board since its inception in 2008 and the issue has been there and never resolved from day 1 of my service. One of the main reasons I don't bother posting here much is that it seems pointless since many issues are never resolved (even though some Verizon employees do monitor these peer to peer boards).

Make sure the drive you are using does not have a sleep/power save mode.  If it does you need to disable it or the drive will not function porperly. I believe that the DVR formats a "new" drive attached since it is paired to that DVR, uses a non-PC/MAC format, and you can only view the recorded programs on the DVR the drive is paired with.

If the event you are recording is labeled live in the guide after you select record it comes up and asks if you want to extend the recoring time and gives you multiple options.  At least that is true on my old Moto 7216, don't know abou the VMS.

However, the free disk space does not make sense though.  Drive 0  currently shows 10GB free while DVR menu says 62% full  Drive 1 currently shows 150GB free while DVR menu says 43% full  I think one of those menus is faulty,. Most likely the Drive 0 and Drive 1 menu.  Have you tried a reboot?  I used to have issues with incorrect percentage vs. areported free space and a reboot seemed to clean it up.

Need to know what revision of the Actiontec.  I believe it has to be REV I in order to work with Quantum (has to support MOCA 2).

You should be able to as the PPV is a linear channel (1000 or 1001).  However to watch on that box you will have to order by phone or web since the box can't request authorization due to the lack of data connection (although I am not sure if data connection is required for authorization or if it is done over the TV band data channel).  If you get guide data it should work but can't guarantee.

See the threads about CCI flag.  Several people using non-Verizon tuners/recording devices have reported that the CCI flag (controls copying) is set to 3 on some NBC stations and this is a COPY NEVER which does not allow recording.  Some have regained recording by updating the resording device's firmware.

My Moto QIP-7216 automatically shows me the option IF the guide lists the event as LIVE.  However, ther are still lots of cases where a live event is listed as NEW which will not automatically prompt you about extending.
The latest build (at least for the Moto boxes) has an option in the system settings to auto tune to the HD channels if available and you enter an SD channel.
