So as of today (17-MAR) in VHO-8 episodes 108 and 110 are available free but episode 109 is still only available as rent/buy.  This is ridiculous  and makes no sense (and yes I know that Verizon claims to not control the content of ON DEMAND).

You guys are preaching to the choir here.  Been with FiOS since 2007, on this board since its inception in 2008 and the issue has been there and never resolved from day 1 of my service. One of the main reasons I don't bother posting here much is that it seems pointless since many issues are never resolved (even though some Verizon employees do monitor these peer to peer boards).

Make sure the drive you are using does not have a sleep/power save mode.  If it does you need to disable it or the drive will not function porperly. I believe that the DVR formats a "new" drive attached since it is paired to that DVR, uses a non-PC/MAC format, and you can only view the recorded programs on the DVR the drive is paired with.

If the event you are recording is labeled live in the guide after you select record it comes up and asks if you want to extend the recoring time and gives you multiple options.  At least that is true on my old Moto 7216, don't know abou the VMS.

Actually, the "lowest tier" is unscrambled.  The lowest tier is technically LOCAL ONLY and doesn't require an STB.  So while the definition of the lowest tier is way less than your old basic cable, today's lowest tier is not encoded.

The simple answer is no.  The coax output from the STB is SD only.  If you are out of HDMI ports then you need tp get an HDMI switch (for inexpensive but quality parts try monoprice.com).  The othe otpion is if your TV has a component vide input (3 RCA connector input for video Red-Green-Blue and a separate 2 RCA connector audio input since component does not carry audio).

I have been experiencing the same thing for the past few weeks on Philly channel 503 (CBS HD).  It definitely is a network issue either from the station or Verizon.  Hopefully one of the mods can pass this on to the technical people out of VHO8 (and yes I know this is a perr to peer forum but it is monitored).

You should be able to as the PPV is a linear channel (1000 or 1001).  However to watch on that box you will have to order by phone or web since the box can't request authorization due to the lack of data connection (although I am not sure if data connection is required for authorization or if it is done over the TV band data channel).  If you get guide data it should work but can't guarantee.

See the threads about CCI flag.  Several people using non-Verizon tuners/recording devices have reported that the CCI flag (controls copying) is set to 3 on some NBC stations and this is a COPY NEVER which does not allow recording.  Some have regained recording by updating the resording device's firmware. 

My Moto QIP-7216 automatically shows me the option IF the guide lists the event as LIVE.  However, ther are still lots of cases where a live event is listed as NEW which will not automatically prompt you about extending.
