What is Asurions' deductible for the Galaxy Note 3 in black? Also, this device is probably on of the few note 3s that doesn't struggle with signal strength/dropped calls...how likely am i to get a refurb that's completely trashed? I don't even need the digitizer, just the glass as its scratched. Nobodys willing to replace just the glass though They want around $120 for the entire thing, ridiculous!
I reset shortly after. No issues after reset. Bootloader has been locked since this phones release anyway

Agreed. When band 4 is strong, it's faster than any smartphone really needs tbh. I work in a building with a VZW tower on the roof. I get four bars inside and the speed tests are incredible 85mb/s down. For reference my home comcast internet is 50. This is where I bet VoLTE will shine. I tried VoLTE on my wifes phone and it's wonderful..when LTE is strong. Get too far away and it drops, doesn't seem to fall back to 13 on phone calls. She's turned it off entirely. At home, with a weak band 4 signal, latency stays normal but I get more like 15mb/s down. Switch to 13 in the same area and it's around 30 down. If they want VoLTE to succeed, unless they're planning to have us only use it near towers/outdoors, band selection needs to be much better. And I don't see this happening as the average Joe would probably abuse it, but a switch to turn XLTE off & on would be nice. Or perhaps user-adjustable thresholds. Every other phone I've had (admittedly not VZW) would at the very least allow me to force 3g or set preferred networks. If VZW didn't have such an amazing network I'd be gone. The way they lock these phones down is incredible.

I notice it seems to want stay connected to XLTE (band 4) much more often even if it means hanging onto a weak signal, but it will eventually fallback to the old band 13 LTE given enough time. The threshold seems to be around -115db. The last few updates have made the phone prefer XLTE (band 4) and btw, your signal strength bar in the notification window is reflecting data strength (LTE, 3g,not voice). When you receive a phone call, or are making one, the reason it changes is because the indicator is now displaying your 1x signal strength (Verizon still uses 1x for voice and SMS) For those of you wondering why your signal bars fluctuate wildly in the same spot-try downloading LTE discovery. Go into settings within the app and turn off all automatic updating/start at boot etc-you're only interested in the data displayed in the center. If it says (Band 4) this explains why your signal is mediocre or weak if you're indoors or in a fringe area. Put the phone in your pocket with the back facing your leg or move further into a building and you'll probably notice you now have full signal strength again. Quickly check 'LTE Discovery' and you'll probably see it's fallen back to Band 13 (not xlte, old 700mhz LTE frequency) Band 4 (XLTE) is much, much faster but penetrates buildings very poorly given the frequency its on. Band 13 (700mhz Old LTE) is much better in terms of coverage and building penetration. I believe NK1 was all but a radio update- thus forcing the phone to seek and choose  XLTE, even if it means a weaker signal strength. Very likely a decision made to take some of the load off the overburdened (depending on metro area) 700mhz LTE frequency. Most of these changes are underhood and wouldn't be noticed by the average user. These forum helped me out quite a bit and I've spent quite a bit of time researching Verizons' infrastructure and thought I might take a moment to try to give back. For those of you complaining of no-service altogether or dropping calls, this would be very likely a tower/phone hardware issue and not so much LTE/XLTE..Because as stated above voice still goes over 1x for us (which you can also see raw 1x strength in LTE Discovery btw) On a lighter note, I'm guessing there's no timeline for the Note 3 getting VoLTE?
This changelog is laughable. They couldn't even remove the fixes for NJ6? This looks identical to the one for NC4 and NJ6. Whoever writes these should have to take a drug test..

Thank you! Was wondering why signal strength on the second floor of my home was -107DB (two bars) but downstairs jumped to five bars and -90DB. As I suspected, the phone connects to LTE (band 4) upstairs and the old 700mhz (band13) LTE hence the difference in signal strength.

It would appear as though Verizon has disallowed all dialer commands on most semi-current Samsung flagships (probably more.) So, since I can't bring up network engineering I have no way of seeing what it's connected to other than the obvious 'LTE' icon in the status bar. On previous (non-verizon) I was able to get more information by using the dialer, or third party apps. But it appears that Verizon, or Samsung has locked this down and it is impossible to access without root (which I'm not doing) How can I see what LTE band I'm on? (I.E band 13 LTE or XLTE band 4) FWIW, This is on my Verizon Note 3 running 4.4.4 NJ6 stock.

It is posted in Android I would delete the post at this point but this forum software isn't particularly straight forward. So, I did the next best thing. I marked your answer as correct! Thank you for your thoughtful and well-worded reply, Ann. Seth: Wasn't aware you could view bands in iOS. Thank you. Maybe it isn't Verizon locking this down then, just Samsung.

It would appear as though Verizon has disallowed all dialer commands on most semi-current Samsung flagships (probably more.) So, since I can't bring up network engineering I have no way of seeing what it's connected to other than speed (more than 75mbps down is XLTE?) That said, is there anyway to tell which band is active without rooting? FWIW, This is on a Note 3 running 4.4.4 NJ6

I'm on 4.4.4 NJ6 and everything is working fine. I factory reset immediately after updates to avoid bugs and thus far it's worked. I bought this phone new in Sept of 2014 and _never_ had any signal issues on any build VZW has released. So, signal aside, did it break anything?
how do i move a tablets data plan from my wifes account to my acct? it was a gift and and came activated. is this simply a matter of returning the sim and getting one associated with my account?

I can't speak to your service issues as I never experienced those on any build Verizon has released..But the 'location bug' actually isn't a bug. It looks like Verizon intentionally changed the way location reporting works. on 4.4.2 I had it set to battery saver in location settings..and in the drop down menu location was reported as off-on would be displayed in the settings menu but tapping location in the drop down menu would turn it on & activate high accuracy. Was pretty nifty. Now location on/off is literally on or off. You can set it to battery saver etc but if you want to start navigation you'll have to change it to high accuracy. Like you, mine is set to battery saver unless I'm driving now. My phone doesn't report me as in another state though?? At the worst it's a town off sometimes. I use Bluetooth daily. Works fine. All this said, I updated then immediately did a factory reset.

I performed a factory reset _before_ taking the update and then immediately after NC4 (the latest firmware for this device.) It was standard practice on Sprint. I came from an HTC EVO LTE that had horrible radios..and coupled with mediocre at best LTE..it was a horrible experience. The texting app issue has been resolved. For some reason CPU usage spiked when the messaging app was open and 'swype' was turned on. I don't even use swype so...problem solved. Turned it off and it's much more responsive now. My main disconcern was going from -77DB 700MHZ LTE signal strength to three bars (-100DB) on XLTE. This was an immediate change with the update that enabled AWS band 4 (XLTE) The average user might even see this as the update breaking their radios. As stated, if I go further into my home it thankfully switches back to 700mhz and I get full bars again. Data and voice are fine in both instances. I did contact Samsung about it but given that they've already sent 4.4.4 to Verizon for the S5 I'm doubting they'll make any adjustments just because one guy suggests them. XLTE on/off for instances when the Note wants to hang onto a weak signal would be nice. This behavior, as stated, is not unique to the Note 3. The S5 does it as well and there is *no option* on that either to turn off XLTE. For that matter, this isn't even a technical support *issue* merely a request. Anyway, thank you for responding!

I recently updated my note 3 from factory release firmware to the most current (NC4) like an idiot. Prior, I had five bars of LTE at home and work (around -79DB.) Immediately after the update it starts off as that..then after a moment drops to 3 (around -100db) in my bedroom. Data etc is still fine. Moving around the house nearing my basement it drops to 2bars..then pops back up to five. I believe this is it switching back to LTE-the 700MHZ frequencys and as such the phone starts @ 700 which is why I have 5 bars on start. It would be really nice to have an indicator at the top saying this. As it is we have too little control..it's literally mobile data on or off no inbetween the note 3s radios are self-controlled. In the next update it would be really REALLY nice if we could force 3g, or turn off XLTE. This is NOT just my Note 3 doing this. My wifes Galaxy S5 does the same thing. That said, data works well in both cases. But it bothers me that there is no way to know what band the phone is operating on (unless someone here knows how to see that info without rooting?) Secondly, this update has ruined the stock text messaging app. Scrolling through text conversations was seamless. Now it's jerky and laggy-particularly if the text contains pictures. This is unacceptable given the CPU/RAM this phone has. Just sloppy coding. Having said that, besides the text messaging app, the phone is slightly more responsive. I see Verizon is pushing Android 4.4.4 to the Galaxy S5 now? Given that the Note 3 was/is a flagship phone-and less than a year old at that-it can't be long till we get it, can it?
