If you have them backed up with google on the Thunderbolt and are using the same gmail account on the Nexus, those should be synced.

You can still switch phones.  The only problem I see is if he currently has an unlimited plan in which case that may be lost and you'll need to choose the 2, 5 or 10GB plan for your line. Probably best to just call customer service from a different device to make sure everything gets set up correctly.
Different technology used (CDMA for Verizon v GSM for AT&T) so you'll likely have no service.
Looks like that's the latest Verizon has listed. http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/rezound.pdf
The widgets are now in the app drawer.  When you open the app drawer, you should see a Widgets tab at the top.
What phone do you have?  If you go into contacts, believe most have some sort of import/export feature where they can be exported to the sdcard/internal storage and then imported into the phone.
Only for existing customers.  New.customers can only choose prepaid or Share Everything.

It's slowly trickling out.  Some have already received it in the Razr subforums http://www.motorola.com/blog/2012/06/22/update-android-4-0-ics-news-for-droid-razr-and-droid-razr-maxx-owners/

Whoever you talked to has no clue what they're talking about.  The line based tiered data packages aren't going anywhere (at least for the time being.)
Probably indicates which screen you're on.
Try http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/10/tip-how-to-bypass-android-activation-screen-on-motorola-droid/. Looks like it may work on the X also. You may need to do it again after any reboots.
Just download it from the market.  It's been updated for ICS (likely the last major update since mobile flash is on its way out).

Since you already have a smartphone with unlimited data, it will carry over to another smartphone whether it's 3G of 4G.  As long as you don't switch to a dumb phone for an extended period of time, you should be able to keep unlimited until Verizon decides otherwise.   As for the phone choice, the Charge and Bionic shouldn't even be on the list.  Only real choices are the Razr, Rezound or Nexus.   My first choice would be the Nexus if you're insterested in a pure android experience with no extra skins to way it down.  Note there will likely be more bugs to work out with any stock device using the latest OS.     The Rezound would be my second choice.   If you like eye candy, you can't beat SenseUI.  As with other HTC devices, battery life will certainly be nothing to write home about.   The Razr....meh.  At the current rate, motorola will release something else next month.

And now we can finally put the fear mongering to rest. No real ETA or price but at least we have confirmation. http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/21/verizon-makes-galaxy-nexus-official-coming-late... See more...

Sounds like your data for the Messages app may be corrupt.  You can try going into Settings-Applications-Manage Applications, select the all tab and scroll down to and select Messages. Hit Clear Data.  You may have to reconfigure any settings within the Messages app but your actual messages should be safe.  If you're worried, you can use something from the market like SMS Backup & Restore or MyBackup Pro to back up your messages.
