Is ANYBODY doing ANYTHING about spoofed phone calls?

I get dozens of spoofed phone calls a day.

I have to answer them because I get some legitimate calls from unknown numbers.

The do-not-call list is a comical joke.  The FCC is useless.

I don't see anything that gives me any confidence that anybody takes this seriously, other than the recipients of the calls.

I do not believe that this is an insoluble problem, but it will probably be expensive.  Impossible and expensive are two different things.

I think Verizon (and the rest of the providers) should be more proactive in solving this.

It takes time to implement a system and the FCC gave carriers permission to block spoofed calls just 3 months ago. And any system is really not going to help if the spoofers are using a legit number anyway.

I have read numerous posts about this, and I can find nothing to suggest that any meaningful effort is ongoing.

I believe that was in May, 2017:

https://www.fcc.gov/fcc-facilitate-blocking-illegal-robocalls

https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-344034A2.pdf

As far as I can tell, this would be limited in scope, and probably have little or no effect.

A) not all phones have this my LG G4 doesn't.

B) As far as being nickled and dimed. If you really think that, then there are 3 other nationwide carriers and several MVNOs to choose from. Don't stay with a company you feel is ripping you off.

Belgie, unwanted callers are such a drag. There were some good recommendations provided above about how to avoid these types of callers. Please know you can block up to five numbers online with My Verizon and if you would like to block more numbers, you can add on Familybase. Familybase will allow you to block up to twenty numbers. You can also change your phone number as well so that these numbers can no longer call you. You can also click onto the link below to view the facts on Familybase. http://vz.to/2Bje3Lv

I have seen zero good recommendations to avoid these callers.

Blocking 5 numbers, or 20 numbers, is useless when I get calls from dozens of different numbers.  Rarely, if ever, have I received a call from the same number twice.

I agree that unwanted callers are a drag.

The fact that very little is being done to address the issue by the providers like Verizon, or by the FCC (led by the Verizon <<removed>> Ajit Pai) is worse.

Most places of business have technology thta detect and mitigate cyber attacks based on spoofed IP addresses. Verizon just needs to take some responsibility here and do the same thing. I called about my problem and was told that there is nothing they can do. There IS something they can do! They need to develop their own way to detect calls and text messages from spoofed numbers and just stop them.
