Porting a number with overdue balance

My husband is currently on his parents Verizon account because he just graduated school and started his first job a few months ago, so we haven't gotten our own phone plan yet. Without going into too much detail, there is a lot of dysfunction happening in his family. His father is the account owner and suspended my husbands line for no reason, as well as his siblings. My husband has several applications (20-30, maybe more) out for better jobs and is waiting on calls back from interviews - so he needs his number to be active. His fathers account is overdue $950 as of yesterday, that's two months overdue. I believe the cycle ends today so that will be 3 months now that will be owed. We spoke to Verizon earlier in transfers (my husband, for some reason, is listed as an account manager) and they told us there is no way to save the number unless his dad pays that balance. Is there any possible way this can be overridden by someone?? We already purchased a new phone with a new number yesterday but his current number is on all of his applications and accounts and everything, so we would like to be able to keep it! This is a horrible situation and I have no idea what to do about it. Verizon told us yesterday that his account service will be suspended for non payment any day now.  I know ATT has a retention department.. does Verizon have something like this where we could be helped? I completely understand that they don't want people scamming and switching numbers to other accounts when they have a balance, but this situation is completely different and we pay all of our own bills on time. I hate that my husbands number is now being tied up with this mess.. Smiley Sad Any suggestions would be great, I am at a loss... (PS: sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I haven't used the Verizon forums before so I wasn't sure where to put this)

Unfortunately, this is not different because there IS a balance on the account and you want to switch to another account. If you want to switch to a different account with your husband's same number, you best option may be to pay off the account and then make the switch. Then you would not have to bother with this account any longer.

You could also contact the companies which your husband had submitted applications to in order to give them an updated phone number, one which YOU have control over.

I second that; nothing you can do really. You can't take the number.

as long as number is still active you can port out .Question is if your new carrier will start process even if yes then you need to provide right account number with pin/pswd on vzw account .....

Verizon owns the number as log as it is on their network. They may not let it go if there is a balance on the account. There is then no incentive for said balance to be paid.

There is definitely no harm in trying but I highly doubt that the number would be able to be successfully ported.

However if the OP's intention was to open their own separate Verizon Wireless account, porting the number out from the current account isn't going to work as porting is the process to move the number to another carrier. You can't port the number to a new Verizon Wireless account. Getting the existing account current is the first step in the process to transfer the billing responsibility of the line in question to a new Verizon Wireless account.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Another option that will work (at least until the line gets suspended) is to forward all calls to the new number, and then do your best to inform all the places he applied to of the new number.  A pain, yes, but unless you are willing to pay the full balance due on the account to bring it current, the number is not going to be released by Verizon, to you or to another carrier.  Smiley Sad

Alyssaw97, we would love to have your husband's line with us. Unfortunately, the owed amount does need to be paid off before a switch can be performed. Has your husband tried reaching out to the carrier of his line to see if other options might be available there concerning the overdue amount?
