We're terribly sorry to hear you're having this difficulty. As some of the users here have said it sounds like the line was still under agreement. When closing lines before the end of the agreement there is a termination charge. This isn't meant as a punishment but is rather to help recoup some of the discount that was given for a 2 year agreement. If it is still within 50 days of the line being closed you can port the line in and receive a refund of the charge. We certainly don't want to see you go.

If your son wants to set up his own account we have a process called an assumption of liability where he can take the line over and put it under his name. He would be taking over the rest of the agreement so there wouldn't be any sort of termination and no charge for doing so.
