Have I fallen victim to a scam?

So last Friday 3/20. I was busy trying to babysit my nephew when I go a phone call from someone claiming to be from Verizon letting me know that I might be out of service for 8 to 12 hours for a tower upgrade in my area. I wasn't only half paying attention to the phone normally I don't answer when I see it is a 1800 number. He said they would credit my bill for the month. He asked questions to verify my account, like last 4 digits of social, and then he asked for the password I use when I call customer service. I never call customer service so I don't remember that password. He said that was no problem. Since I never lost service I am now worried I might have fallen for a scam since I wasn't really on the top of my game. I have checked my account and nothing has been charged to it and I don't save credit card info to it so I hope I am safe.

I looked up the number that called me it is a legit Verizon number but I read that some scammers can mask the number with a legitimate number.

Has anyone else gotten a call like this?

Last 4 of your SSN is usually account password!   This call was almost certainly fraudulent and they can now make changes and purchase things on your account with the last 4 digits of your SSN.  Notification of service down would never need any part of your SSN!  Call immediately, get this password changed and stop any purchases already done!

In the future never give out any information of a personal sort to anyone calling you. There is no company that would ever do this and if they did you should tell them you will call them back when you can verify their validity.

jerryb778, your security and the security of your account is extremely valuable. We would never sell or share our customers phone numbers. I've received calls on my phone and the caller claims to be from Verizon Wireless.

I was offered a free phone and asked to provide my credit card number and account PIN.

Please keep in mind that Verizon Wireless employees would never call you and ask you to provide your account PIN, Social Security number or any other personal information.

We have an Amazing tool to help you block and filter unwanted calls. Take a look at the Call Filter FAQs. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/call-filter-faqs/#what

The "Free Spam Protection" section provides the steps you need to enroll.
