Mislead into an Edge Program and now can't get out.

I've been a loyal Verizon customer for over 10 years had been at the end of my contract contract term for couple of months and had a $50 credit towards a new phone. I went to my local Verizon store, picked out the new iPhone 5 S, waited over three hours while they transferred my information from my old HTE device to the new phone. They never actually got all of my data transferred but as I was checking out with my credit card in hand to pay the new phone and go into a new contract, the salesman said "oh have I got a plan for you! I can save you the $249 that you're going to pay today for this iPhone and you could make monthly payments of $21 and you're qualified upgrade to a new phone even faster and you don't have to sign a two-year contract ". Boy, did I have sucker written on my forehead or what!  At this point I was just plain exhausted from standing around in their store for three hours waiting for them to get my new phone ready and I fell for his misleading sales pitch. With out asking questions or actually seeing a written agreement, I let him enter me into this Edge Program.  Never in this entire process did he tell me that I was actually signing up to just lease the phone and I was agreeing to pay $749 for the phone instead of the $249 that I would owe them that day. Now I'm stuck in this program and I can't get out! Verizon customer service doesn't seem to be able to help me although they say they sympathize and that the sales person really sold me something that wasn't appropriate for my usage and my history with the company, but their hands or tied. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is the only recourse to go to a new company and pay the $749 for the phone? I am at a loss, I feel so disillusioned with the company at this point. I feel as if they suckered me out of an additional $500 for the phone!!! the only way to even begin to mitigate my losses is to switch to a lower cost provider like Sprint, who, by the way will buy this phone fr me for $365!

Please learn more about the Edge program.

You were not swindled.

You will actually SAVE money by getting the phone on the Edge program.  You get a monthly discount (probably $15 a month) that would would not get had you paid the $249.  The phone is also NOT leased.  After you make the 24 payments, it's all yours.

Dmcam113,

Not only have I experienced this, I did it with three phones. I'm also stuck and I was totally mislead by the salesperson. I repeatedly asked what the final monthly payment would be and was always given the price without the cost of the phones added in. This will cost me an extra $100 a month for 18 months. I've never felt this stupid in my life. I didn't believe that they would purposely talk you into a more expensive plan, and lie to you about the monthly charge, but I was wrong. As soon as I can pay off the phones, I'm leaving Verizon.

oh yeah ... I know this one!!

MY daughter thought she was signing for a new every two and signed up for the edge program.... Kicker is she is not the account holder and I was not contacted and did not give permission for them to change my plan... Customer service contacted the manager of store and I was told "tough" and they would be glad to remove it from my account for 660 dollars..... Customer service says there is nothing they can do and I have to pay for it.... I am so disappointed in Verizon right now...
