switching from post paid to prepaid questions

Can I switch from post paid to prepaid and keep my same number? Can I also keep my same phone? I very rarely use more than 2gb of data and could save $30/month if this is possible.

Which phone do you have? Currently only 3G only smartphones can be activated on the Verizon Wireless prepaid plans for smartphones. You should also be out of contract for your postpaid account.
