1) Is it possible to prevent the "locating" message on the childs phone when you do a locate?

(If the child is in trouble this could be a real problem if the phone shows that it is trying to be located)

2) Does the Chaperone use MB data?

3) Any way to turn off the "this phone may be located..." when the phone is turned on?

4) I have gotten different answers from different verizon folks... is the cost of chaperone $9.95 each

line or $9.95 total (family share plan).

Thanks in advance,

AJ

The plan costs $9.99 per phone that will be monitored.

I just bough an older phone for my son and I want to setup Chaperone.  I have an LG VX10000 and he has an LG VX1000 (Migo).  The Chaperone child site for VZW 2009 states that the LG VX1000 Migo already has the child chaperone appl already loaded and therefore it will not need to be loaded.

I am having all sorts of problems getting someone to turn the service on for me.  VZW does not sell the Migo anymore, so nobody knows how to get this to work.  I have taken it to a store, online, and phone support.  Everybody thinks it is impossible to make happen, but the website says it can.

When I load the appl on the parent phone it says I did not accept the terms & condition agreement and sends me to the website. I go to the website and accept the terms and it tells me I do not have a child assigned to my account.

What can I do????

Hi rtb2mba,

The service can work you must call #611 to reach the Care team to special order it for the migo.

Ask for a Locator Feature Code to be placed upon your LG VX10000 (on that device you can access the locator service by launching the mobile browser, selecting MY VERIZON > My SERVICES > FAMILY LOCATOR).

Then ask for a "Family Locator Child for MIGO" feature code to be placed on your Migo Device, which they can learn about on their "Codes/Pricing: Family Locator Line Usage Charges" Care Assistance page. You are correct this device needs no Family Locator Member application downloaded upon it.

Once the Care representative has done this. Place this phone on a window sill and turn it on.

Then go to familylocator.vzw.com, login with your LG VX10000 My Verizon login (there is an option to register for one if you do not have one yet), and then, click the RED activate button in the top left corner of the screen which sits aside your phone number for the MIGO phone.

Click the 4 checkboxes and hit the "Activate" button.

Once you have completed that step you can begin locating the phone.

Thanks,

Leonard M.

I have this same problem - leonard please help - I called and followed the instructions - even read them verbatum to the care person as well as a tech person - the tech person insisted that it cannot be done.  she kept telling me that they don't support chaperone anymore and that i will have to purchase a new phone.  This phone is for a 5 year old - i want him safe but he is not ready for a regular phone.  Clearly they just want to cell another phone.  any suggestions on how to get them to just activate the service.

Hi digshep,

What the tech person told you was incorrect. Tell them to get their sales commission on another customer. As you stated the MIGO is perfect for a 5 year old, and, can be purchased cheaply on ebay as good as new.

First select your device and tell the tech rep to place VISION CODE 72586 "Family Locator" on the phone you use.

Then, Ask them to give you the following feature on your MIGO phone: Vision Code 72588 "Family Locator Child for Migo"

If they do not do this, then escalate to their manager, as there are a number of such users, and there is nothing to prevent this from being available to you as well.

While it is true the rep will not support the Migo phone as an old device, there is plenty of information online about how to use it and set it up.

Sorry for my delay in replying

still can't activate family locator on my phone either. I called tech support 5 times and mentioned the vision codes for the locator and the locatee.  The tech said I had to update my software on the phone to version 9 and this could only be done at a store via hardwire, not over the air. I went to 3 stores.... 2 stores said they didn't have the software anymore, it was purged from their computers and the 3rd store said they didn't have the cable. As of right now, I am paying for family locator and can not activate it on the Migo. What should I do next. Is there any way I can update the software myself? I have a USB adapter for the phone. Please HELP.

It appears your issue is different then digshep, as another was able to add those codes and get their migo working.

You state "you have family locator but cannot activate it"

That is a different issue as digshep could not get family locator at all.

To be paying for Family Locator, that means they have put a billable feature onto one of your Family Locatee phones, in your case the Migo.

So that brings us to activating your MIGO which is a whole different matter.

To activate the Migo refer to the Family Locator User Guide: http://support.vzw.com/pdf/FamilyLocator_UserGuide.pdf

Also here are a few hints to make activating easier.

1: Login with your LOCATOR phone password to http://familylocator.vzw.com; the LOCATOR phone is the account you are using to locate the other device.

2: Then click the red activate button next to the LOCATEE phone (in your case the MIGO).

3: Leave your MIGO on, and in plain view of the satellites in the sky, on a window sill or on your car dashboard would be good places.

4: Then follow the user guide steps for activation.

Please let me know what activation error it is giving you?

Thanks.

.... now as to you having a version of the MIGO prior to Family Locator being loaded onto it... that could be. I would suggest getting a new one from ebay and discussing with the seller if they have used the family locator on their phone or going to a very large and long standing verizon store which might have "version 9".  I see that MIGO launched prior to Chaperone (the old version of Family Locator), so perhaps there were versions that were not compatible.
