*Most* stores will let you  upgrade a few days out...the only exception being if you want to upgrade to an iPhone - Apple is the stickler here, not allowing ANY early upgrades.

If you were not wanting to upgrade to an iPhone, then I'm not sure why the store you are dealing with is not allowing a few days early upgrade.
