I hardly think that the Note is a symbol of excess and pomp. The Note offers a larger screen for those that have bad vision and even for those that don't, the Note offers a browsing experience where less scrolling is necessary.  Games are played easier on the larger screen.  The HD viewing quality for video is superb.

The Note also offers business and personal features that no other phone offers in that you can write on it and save your notes or email them to another party.

Just because you don't like the Note doesn't mean that it's a symbol of excess and pomp.  I'm sure that someone who has a phone that's not as good as the one that you have could say the same about your phone.
