when i add a contact  on my phone and do a sync, it does not transfer the contact to my verizon online contact list. BUT when i add a contact on my verizon through my computer  and sync it, the info syncs to my droid. This phone is giving me problems....

When you are creating the contact on the phone, are you choosing to create it as a "phone contact", a "gmail/google contact" or something else? From what I understand the Backup Assistant will only backup contacts saved as "phone contacts" to your My Verizon account. Have you ever logged into your gmail account on a computer to check if the contacts were synced there?

Sounds like BA is being flaky. I wish I had an answer to how to fix the sync between the phone and BA. Now here is the sad news, it has been flaky for months. One way to work around are save the contacts to the sd card and import them into gmail an have the contact sync only through gmail. From the contacts/people application press menu and then export. This creates a vcf file. When this is done shut the phone off and take the sd card and then use a card reader to read the card with a computer. Find the vcf file on the card and copy it to a folder on the computer. Now log into your gmail account and go to the contact view. There will be a option somewhere to import your information. Follow the instructions to upload the vcf file. Once you have the sd card back in phone after you had removed it from the computer properly, turn the phone back on. Go to settings > accounts > verify the sync with gmail is active. If it isn't already, press the sync now button. You will now have duplicates on the phone. In the people application, press menu, view and choose either to uncheck the phone contacts to not view them or uncheck anything else so only see the phone contacts to delete them. When done deleting go back to the view options to recheck the gmail contacts and allow you to view them. The next time you create a contact choose gmail as the contact type and the new one will sync with the old ones. The phone will remember the gmail setting and continue creating contacts under gmail.

You can also import the vcf file into backup assistant if you want.

I have been using gmail for my sync for over a year and had no problems through a couple of factory resets and now a different android phone.

Completely agree with Ann154. Just wanted to add that I use Exchange, Google, Facebook and Twitter contacts in People App! To keep it simple, I use exchange as my master list and only show Exchange contacts in people. However, I use the "link" feature of People app to link all matching accounts from all sources (gmail, facebook, twitter) to the exchange account and have a single entry to each user with complete aggregated information!

I add the contact as a phone contact. I don't even use the gmail account needed to have this phone. But it still does not work. I called verizon and they said we needed to do a hard reset, and they could not even tell me how to do a sync. I wish I had not purchased this phone.
