Konakid,

Gingerbread is the version of Android Operating System that our phones currently use.  If I am correct, and feel free to let me know if I'm not, ours is version 2.3.6.  Eventually Ice Cream Sandwich, the next version, is supposed to be available to our phones, not sure when.

About the power swap, if I'm taking this in right, our phones hit full charge and then swap from the power coming from the plug, and start using battery power.  If you hit your Menu button and go to settings, scroll down to About Phone, then Battery, Battery Use, you will see how long your phone has been on battery power alone, whether plugged in or unplugged.

This can be taken care of by timing your charges at night and plugging in at the right time, or charging the phone off.  Hopefully this can be fixed with an LG Hardware Update.  If you want to email me, feel free.  Hope this helps.  << Personal information removed to comply with >>

It's possible that part of the problem is  the very fact that you are using the Apps Manager to kill all apps as soon as you're done using them (if I'm understanding you correctly). Turning off apps manually can actually reduce your battery life. This sounds very counterintuitive to longtime PC users (it has taken me a few months to get used to it), but it seems that that is how Android devices work. The operating system expects to do the app management and memory management, and the more the user intervenes in it, the more energy the operating system uses starting its job all over again. Perhaps this is what dhaynie266 meant in saying that the phone's Application Management Widget, part of the operating system, kills apps automatically.

Moreover, the Android OS (unlike Windows) is constructed so as to keep RAM loaded with apps that it thinks might be needed. Every time we kill an app, the OS will load another one to occupy the RAM, using up battery power in the process. As I say, I've had a hard time getting used to this myself, but it seems that the more we leave it alone, the better the system will work.

There's a good discussion in this thread (with a link to this very informative article).

Hi Dave-in-Decatur -

WOW!  You did understand me correctly and this sounds like it could be my "ISSUE" Smiley Happy after all.  I will refrain from using the "App Manager" and let my apps run....

Will I need to "train" my battery/phone?  (I only have a couple more days to return my phone....'tho after hearing from you and dhaynie266, I think I will keep it.)

I'm assuming that your Lucid, like dhaynie266, (or maybe you don't have the Lucid..???)  are happy with your phone and battery length - ??

Thank You Dave!

I don't have the Lucid, so I can't comment specifically on it. My understanding, though, is that Android phones are "self-training" (like a fantasy dog ), and don't require any guidance from the user. The OS will simply gradually pick up the pattern of apps that you actually use, and load them into RAM in preference to ones you don't use. This may take a few weeks, so it may not be fully refined in two days. But I would hope that you would begin to see better battery life pretty quickly. I'm not an expert on that, though!

Dave,

Thats actually pretty enlightening about the app killer, because I did not know about the Android OS wanting to keep apps in the RAM.  I appreciate the info as well, all the more reason for me to look further in to what Android is capable of.  We already know its better than iCrap, or else we wouldnt have 'em.  lol.  Thanks again.  dhaynie266

I purchased this same phone, and have the same problems. It seems as if I now live my life permanently seeking an electrical outlet so I can charge.

I have had multiple Android phones, and tablets - so I am very aware of how applications and settings effect battery life. This phone is particular is one of the worst I have experienced. I really like the phone - but if I could do it again I would have chosen something else due to this one issue. I can't return it, because I have now had it over 14 days.

I think more people should complain about this issue, because it's not the users' fault in this case. You can have this phone's abilities completely limited and not using a thing, and it will still drain battery so quick you'll form the habit of keeping your charger in your pocket 24/7.

Oh Thank Goodness!!!!!!  NeilofNeils, I thought I was losing my mind!!!  Or becoming an extreme nitpicker!  I have been back to the Verizon store, over and over and over .... In fact just this past week I was there, and I told my sales rep., "Please don't think that I am picky!"   He even included the Branch Manager who checked the battery usage, which, of course, shows only recent usage.

That same morning, as I woke up, I unplugged the phone from charging overnight.  I then checked new emails for anything urgent (this took under 30 seconds), looked to see if I had any urgent texts (this took maybe 10 seconds), and finally checked a couple of 'notifications' - mainly Facebook (between 1-2 minutes at the MOST).  After being up out of bed for around 15 minutes, I checked the phone battery and it was at 52% - what?!

I have asked every question I can think of, in thinking that I was the "problem".  I, too, am past the "14-Day mark"; however, I still have my (replaced) Blackberry which I will go back to using, and then I will sell this Lucid, and use that money plus save up a little bit to purchase an i-phone.

I have spoken with all of my friends who have an i-phone, and they all said from the start, they "hit the ground running" with it.  I am above-average on tech-issues, whether it be a cell phone, tv, etc.; but this Lucid was making me feel like I needed to sit with the Dunce Cap on in the corner!

I agree with you that we should report this problems.  Should I do that as a phone review?  Or where would you suggest?
Thank you for writing this message, as I now feel much better!!

P.S.    I did ask the Verizon store sales rep about purchasing the extended battery or the power pack w/cover.
He said that he would recommend the extended battery over the power pack.

This is simply info, take it or leave it...  Smiley Happy    If I were to ask 10 different Verizon reps., via the phone (Customer

Service) or in a store, whereever .......  I would get 10 different answers.  Jus' Sayin' .................

I am having the same problem.  Actually I was not having that problem until I went to the Verizon store because I was getting an error message on my phone that the SD Card was removed (which I never did)  They "FIXED" the problem for me and now I only have about 2 hours of battery power.  I have to keep the phone on airplane mode just to save it for the day.  I USE NOTHING.  I charged it overnight, after 3 hours of being in my pocket, and only 2 phone calls it was extremely hot, and NO BATTERY LEFT.  I was glad that I have the portable battery charger so that I could at least re-charge for a few more hours.  I never use any app, I don't even check my emails.  (which I can't because according to the Verizon Rep, AOL does not work properly with this phone - my last email from AOL is dated April 26th)   I also have it for more that 14 days.   Today I took it from the charger at 100% battery, have used it for  nothing...had it on for about 3  hours, changed to airplane mode, just changed back  made 1 phone call and 1 text and my battery is down to 53%!   I am hoping that when I go back to the store they can help me.

After several days since original purchase I am shocked that I must constantly charge the battery.  Last evening I inadvertently let the battery run out and net net I lost all data.  So I spent over an hour this morning re-programming the Lucid.  I was not given all relevant information by VZW so far as I am concerned, I did not get value for what I paid for, notwithstanding the 'rebate'.  Right now I do not know how in the world to stop the constant draining of the battery on this

'new phone', I am in despair, as a longtime proponent of VZW!
