Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - LG V30 | Verizon Wireless

These instructions simply do not work.  "Press and hold the Volume Down button then press and hold the Power button. When the System recovery screen is displayed, release both buttons."  When both buttons are released, the system recovery screen vanishes and the device proceeds with a normal boot.  Why can't Verizon provide instructions that work?????  EVER???
