Ya, I was going to the store earlier this year to get that beefy Windows Phone, only to realize - yet again - Verizon keeps making bad decisions in their product lineup.  Great phones either way!  So I went middle-class citizen on Windows Phone - Lumia, and again had a much more fulfilling experience on my phone in texting, calls, pictures, reliability, all of it.

Anyway - I hear ya on the AT&T choice.  Smart move.

Unless something happens between now and January, then there is no other choice but to move onto the other provider's ecosystem.

But, if you're still at crossroads by then, good luck making a decision, ...I've heard of some people keeping a phone for the network they need, and a fun or business phone, but if that's not possible either, again good luck!!!

You only have so many hours after a post, to UnPost it.

I'm not sure how to delete after that either.

I too am looking to upgrade after 12 years on VZW and 8 years on a Palm Treo with Win Mobile 6.1 Pro.  it's reached a point that I'm going to "need" to upgrade in order to do anything more that call and basic text.  However, I've been waiting for the next gen to sync with the ease that I have now with my pc and outlook.  It looks like it's time (I've been monitoring the MS Community on the subject), but for years I've found the WinPhone offerings on Verizon to be saaaaaadddd, verrry saaaaad and support on the subject to be nonexistent.  When I switched to VZW from AT&T it was because of coverage, which for me is now almost equal in the areas I travel, so when the 950's are out, it's time to reconsider my service provider.  Loyalty seems to be a one way street.  I've lost all benefits of staying as VZW has continually and consistently stripped them away.  Better deals are offered elsewhere for switching, as well as better hardware.

That first Customer Support response is a classic.  Plenty of text with no substance.  Not one piece of actual information was offered.  All it says to me is "we want your money, but have no reason for you to stay".

I have already investigated AT&T and chosen a plan.  As soon as they are available I will be buying a new Lumia.  If that means leaving Verizon, then so be it.  It's not my fault if they can't/won't offer the latest and greatest devices.

MS isn't talking to any carriers for these phones. They openly stated this. So doesn't matter Verizon won't get it even if they wanted to. So move to AT&T or buy unlocked and pick any GSM carrier.

Bunch of bull. Even the FCC papers completely tears that apart. Simply the 950/XL was never tested with CDMA and EVDO let alone band 13 proves it was never intended for a CDMA carrier.

Because this has been a topic of conversation on these post: Blaming of Verizon or Microsoft concerning the reasons for disabling the CDMA bands on the Lumia 950(XL). The comments after the articles are also interesting.

Surur of WMpoweruser puts it Microsoft. The commenters disagree: http://wmpoweruser.com/microsoft-shares-blame-for-the-lumia-950-verizon-issue/?utm_source=feedburner...

Winbeta puts it back on Verizon:http://www.winbeta.org/news/verizon-reported-blocking-network-access-lumia-950-950xl

You all can form your own opinions. It is clear to me, and the majority agrees, Microsoft disabled it because of how VZW treats Windows Phone.

Because you guys are biased. The fact remains MS could have done it on their own. They chose not to. The fact remains if they made it work on Verizon and had band 13 Verizon has no choice but to accept it since all devices approved for band 13 by the FCC must work on their network if all the network compatibility is there. They use GSM authentication protocols and not the old CDMA protocols. There's PLENTY of  documentation on this. Your podcast friends if they actually researched it they could have easily found it especially your former Verizon tech friend.  Microsoft chose to not pay the licensing on their own and would rather some other carrier pay for it as to why they disabled it. MS knows they probably wouldn't sell enough to pay the licensing on their own as to why they disabled it on their own let alone push it through the FCC.

I will put money down if MS actually put it in it would be on Verizon. You know how stupid the argument is that MS did it to smite Verizon? Do you have any inkling what that means? They want to hurt Verizon at expense to their fans who are "forced" to use Verizon due to coverage. Not to mention those that are tied to CDMA carriers and MVNO carriers. Just some food for thought.

Stop thinking with emotions and think rationally.  It was a business decision with future plans. This was a stop gap phone to get a product out until they can release their new line of phones under the surface branding. This is where if anything MS will go all in and be able to get an unlocked Surface that will work just like the iphones, Motorola, and Nexus devices.
