Enable 4G band for use in Europe

Hola,

I have an unlocked HTC M8 for windows that I use with a non Verizon SIM in Europe.

Phone is working great on 3G and 3.5G, but I dont have 4G.

The phone is hardware designed with 4G bands LTE band 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800) - EMEA and LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 17(700) - AT&T, but somehow the bands 3(1800) and 20(800) are blocked, because Verizon use only LTE Band 13/4 (700/1700 MHz).

It is a method with I can unlock all LTE bands in order to use 4G capabilities of the phone in Europe ?

Kind regards,

Gabriel

Activado HTC One (M8) For Windows Specs and Reviews | HTC United States , HTC declare the phone has

4G - LTE:

  • Bands 3,4,7,13

Activado HTC One M8 para Windows | Verizon Wireless , Verizon say that the phone has

LTE banda 13/4 (700/1700 MHz)

So the bands 3 and 7 "dissapear" somehow and I think those bands are software blocked by Verizon, because Verzon doesn't use bands 3 and 7 on LTE.

How can  I enable those bands 3 and 7 ? Because when I use the phone in Europe, the provider use 3, 7 and 20 band.

Atentamente,

gabriel.cismaru & indifference  If the bands are disabled at the software level that means that it was purposely done via the devices firmware and unless HTC/VZW is willing do enable those bands which is highly unlikely given how old the devices are their is nothing you can do about it.

You need to add the APN for the carrier you are using to access all the radio bands your phone is capable of using on that network.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

The APN is added, it's corect. With the same SIM (Vodafone Romania) and the same APN I have 4G on my Lumia 1520.

The LTE bands in which Vodafone Romania is working are somehow blocked by Verizon.

It's may be some way to unlock all the phone capabilities in order to use bands 3(1800) and 20(800)...

Any clues ?

Speeds are important especially travelling abroad. Our LTE devices are unlocked. It is really going to depend on the SIM card in the device. What happens if you try a different SIM card carrier?

Usually, as long as the phone has the bands built in, they are controlled by the carrier's SIM card. Some carriers, especially in Europe, used to have different plans for getting 4G. They might not be available on all plans, especially pre-paid. The carriers save bandwidth by restricting their best connections to post-paid accounts. That practice is (thankfully) disappearing, but it might still be in play in some countries/carriers. You'd have to call your carrier or stop into one of their stores.

I was trying with different providers - SIM, still no 4G.

With the same SIM card, on different phone, with the same APN I have 4G.

Still no answer?

I understand from this silence that Verizon blocked those LTE bands in order to keep clients in their network.

What kind of concurrential practice are that on a free market ?

Hello. I'm using Verizon HTC One M8 for Windows in Russia because there is no international version of this perfect phone.

Here in Russia mobile operator support only band 7 and 20. Band 7 hardware supported by One M8 for Windows, but software block this band.

Please, tell me, how I can unlock this band. Muchas gracias.
