I Will second adding the $25/100MB plan if you are traveling and you plan to have data turned on at all. I then zero out data on the phone counters and keep a close eye. Use airplane mode when you don't need data. using pay as you go and having data on is potentially costly.
The posting stating $200 extra charges for .22 MB and one text message is missing some other facts on how it got up to $200. However just 10 MB on pay as you go will be over $200 and that is not much data. You could literally get that in a few seconds!
Getting a local SIM should also be considered if traveling for extended periods.

not really. Just easier getting local SIM when traveling internationally and having a network in USA that you can actually use outside metropolitan areas.
