We have been loyal Verizon customers for 10 years with no previous problems.  Just before Thanksgiving when my son tried to call us from his grandmothers the call was answered by a stranger.  My sons grandmother spoke to the man and learned that he had purchased a phone from someone on ebay with one of our phone numbers already programmed in it, when he took it to a verizon store he wasn't allow to have the number changed because he wasn't authorized.  So he set it up with verizon pre pay.  Now when both phone are on it's random which phone will get the call.  We called customer service and thought the problem was solved as it turns out it wasn't.  So the other guy called to try to fix the problem and was told that we had to call to get the problem fixed.  Over the last two months I have talked to several people in tech support, no one can fix the problem, they won't even follow up like they say they will.  One of them even asked me if we would be willing to change our number.  We have had the same number for 8 years.  It's not our fault there's another phone with our number.  We have NEVER sold a phone on ebay.  If the problem isn't corrected soon we plan to switch our service.

How frustrating!  I'm not clear on why the "other guy" can't change his number ... if it's a new line and somehow got crossed with yours.  You said he's "not authorized" - if he's the account owner he can change the number.... if it's on a fmaily plan then yes,, the account owner will have to change the number.  But it would seem to be the simplest solution, and I'm not sure why that isn't able to be done.

Something sounds very fishy about the phone the guy bought on ebay.  Do you mean the guy bought the phone already activated and it was activated with your number?  Did the guy not already have a phone and verizon account and was just buying a used replacement phone?  If I had bought that phone on ebay I certainly wouldn't want it like that if I found out it had someone else's number I was using so something is not adding up if the guy knows this.  Mary

When the guy got the phone it had the our number programmed into it so he uses it as a prepay phone.  But what I don't understand is if he wasn't allowed to have a new number issued then how could he have had on activated.  I'm as much upset that this happened as I am with unwillingness to solve it.

Obviously he bought some  kind of phone from ebay involved in a scam I would say and he should have the seller investigated.  Curious to know how verizon let him activate a prepaid phone with a number already in use by someone else and if he now knows he has the same number as someone else he should do something to rectify that as I can't imagine wanting to keep that number.  Post back when you get it resolved.  Mary
