device payment vs 2 year contract?

So i'm looking into upgrading my phone. The phone I would like is on special for a $100 off (online) and would bring down my monthly line $10. On the other hand I can get it on contract for $100 (It also goes on sale for a $1) currently. My current plan is $60/mo (single line w/ 1 GB data).  Over the course of 2 years which is my best cost effective method, payment plan or 2 yr contract? Or how about buying a mint or new from a 2nd hand source? (I'm a visual person so I would like to see how you the numbers came to be)

Knowing what plan you have would be helpful. Just saying it is a single line for $60/month with 1 GB of data doesn't mean a whole lot. We need to know the breakdown of your bill. The name of your plan would be helpful. It should be listed on your bill. Some example plan names are "Nationwide Single", "More Everything", "Verizon Plan". Some plans no longer allow contracts and others give discounts on your bill for being in a phone purchasing payment plan.

Additionally, knowing what phone you want and the cost would be helpful. With the $100 off it appears you may be looking at the Turbo 2???

It says unlimited talk and text with 1 GB. I can get a 2 yr contract as I've spoken with a person from Verizon. I'm actually looking at the LG V10 phone. It's $572 ($23.83/mo) with no upgrade fee if done online.

Multiple plans have unlimited talk & text, however the discounts they qualify for being on a DPP(device payment plan) differ.

It may be better to just go with the contract and continue what you are paying because unless we know what plan you have, there is no way for us to show you what your costs would be for being on a DPP.

You may be on a plan which has no discounts, you may be on a plan which would give you a $15 discount or you may be on a plan which gives you a $20 discount for being on a plan with unlimited talk & text with 1 GB of data AND a DPP.

Loyalty plans would not likely give you a discount for being on a DPP, More Everything would give you a $15 discount(bringing line access fee to $25) for being on a DPP with your 1 GB/month data and the Verizon Plan will have a $20 line access fee for all lines out of contract whether or not they are on a DPP.

This is exactly what it says:  unlimited talk and text with 1 GB SMP , does that help at all (for the current plan I'm on)?

If I remember correctly I was told I would be $50/mo plus the cost of the phone so roughly $73.83/mo until device has been paid off.

No it doesn't help. It may be a loyalty plan so I wouldn't expect any discounts for being on a DPP.

Do any of the prices you have quoted include taxes/fees?

The $50/month plus the cost of the phone sounds like the Verizon Plan.

$20/month line access fee + $30/month for 1 GB of data = $50/month. Phone would be additional.

I think that plan is a limited time Single Line plans Verizon offered in 2014 as another option with the Share/More Everything Plans. It is definitely a legacy plan now.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
