EUGENE2117, we want to ensure you can activate your old device as needed. It's not necessary to contact us in order to activate a prior device unless that device gives you an issue with the activation. You can switch a device easily via My Verizon via this link: http://spr.ly/6583DXepU. We no longer have contracts for phones.
