I keep getting phone calls, from numbers in the Verizon pool, that are from a telemarketing company for credit reduction. Verizon Customer service said that was nothing to be done about it.
Why can't Verizon police their subscribers?

The past couple of weeks I've been getting spam calls on my cell phone from the same area code and prefix as my phone number, so they appear to be another Verizon cell phone number...I think they are being spoofed to get me to answer, but the numbers are not in my contact list, and it seems funny that I would get several from the same prefix spread over a few days...the two times I did answer, it was a recording for a free trip or hotel stay or something....

Verizon chooses not to install simple software that would block calls that do not accurately reflect the legitimate caller ID of the real (or spoofed) numbers account owner. Instead Verizon chooses to raise money by attempting to up-sell us to monthly call-filter services for $2.99/month. If Verizon really wanted to help reduce these nuisance calls, they would not charge us, the victims, in order to create additonal revenue streams.
