Who has upgraded since the share plans started?

Were you able to keep your existing plan, or did you have to change over to the new plans?

I started with Verizon in April of 2012, but when I was looking at new phones (even though I don't have an upgrade soon, just always staying on top of what's out there), I noticed that the new plans are more expensive. I bought the Droid RAZR when it was on sale, and there was a promotion for 4 GB for $30.

I currently have 450 minutes, unlimited messaging, 4 GB of data, and insurance and I pay $96.98 before taxes.

The new plans would cost $119.99 before taxes for 4 GB and insurance, and I don't need unlimited minutes because I text more than I talk on the phone.

Has anyone upgraded since Verizon changed over to the share plans? If so, were you able to keep your existing plan, or did you have to change?

I know it's a while before my upgrade, I'm just curious if I'll be able to keep my promotion.

As to the promotion, 4 GB for $30, you'd need to look at the terms of the promo - was it only for the current contract?  I know you can get 2 GB for $30, and not have to switch to the Share Everything, I DON'T know if you can keep the 4GB promo.  My guess is NO, but I wouldn't mind being wrong!  Go through the upgrade, at a corporate store, and say you want to keep your existing plan, NO Share Everything,  See if it sticks.

The terms of the double-your-data promo state that it remains in effect as long as you have a 4G phone (and regardless of contract renewals).

Yes, no change.

Yes, you'll be able to keep your current plan.  It's primarily the indirect retailers (bestbuy, costco, etc.) that try to force you into a Share Everything plan when you upgrade.

We have upgraded several of our phones, and I even did an AOL to add my daughter to our Nationwide Family Share 1400 Talk & Text plan - we were able to keep the plan and add individual data plans to the lines (3 smartphones, 2 GB each, $90 for data)

Sweet!  I'm glad to have been wrong in this case.  Thanks for the added info!

They will do whatever they can to get rid of that sweet 4GB deal you have. Even though we have 6 months left of our plan (4 phones), we are eligible for an upgrade. Yesterday, Best Buy mobile said our 4GB/phone would be reduced to 2GB since  Verizon was forcing the new share plans and the 4GB was not grandfathered. It wasn't until we were about to walk away that they said they would check into it.  We also noticed that my husband's plan was reduced to 2GB a year ago when they had to replace his defective phone. How did that happen since our contract is good for 6 months yet? We called Verizon today and they said that was a promo and when he got the new phone, it wasn't eligible for that 4GB "promo"......very sneaky (the other 3 phones we have are still 4GB). So, be sure to keep a watchful eye on the Data Available.  We'll find out this week if we get to keep our 4GB for $30.  If not, guess we'll be looking for a different provider (going to an 18GB share everything plan would cost us an extra $50 before taxes on our already hefty bill). No thanks.

You aren't eligible for an upgrade until you complete 20 months of your contract (unless your contract started Jan. 1, 2012, or later, and then it's 24 months, or the entire contract) and each line has its own contract, so I'm not sure what you mean by "even though we have 6 months left of our plan (4 phones), we are eligible for an upgrade".  And it may be that retailers like Best Buy cannot honor the double-your-data promotion, just like they can't keep folks on Nationwide plans when upgrading (apparently retailers only have the option to put you on Share Everything).  I'm not sure why your husband lost his 4GB data plan; as long as he was replacing his phone with a 4G phone, he shouldn't have and if you'd caught it within the 14-day time frame, Verizon should have been able to restore it.  Sounds to me like you are being encouraged to switch to the Share Everything plan, and you don't have to switch if you don't want to.
