What is Smartphone line access and why do I have to pay it?

So what is the scam behind the Smartphone line access?  I have a single line, choose a plan and have to pay a Smartphone line access fee for as long as I have a Verizon account.  This seems like such a scam by Verizon to compete with the other wireless companies that don't have such a made up ridiculous fee.  The Smartphone line access should be included in the price they advertise in their pricing since customers have to pay it anyway and there is no way to get out of it.  I have read some of the lame excuses as to why Verizon charges the fee.  If we have to pay if they should included in the pricing they advertise in their services.   I will be soon be changing to one of the wide range of competitors that actually charge what they advertise and don't make up imaginary services to charge their customers $240.00 per year for a made up fee.

Then use another carrier. By the way they all have lien access fees It's just baked into the price. but if you don't want to see "line access fee" on your bill then switch to the new unlimited plans

What do you think the unlimited plans are? The line access on majority of the other plans are there to be transparent instead of hiding them like other carriers. Because customers keep complaining about it, the newer plans also hide them to ironically be more like the other carriers you're trying to defend.

Yep just like t-mobile bakes the taxes/fees into the price. They still exist. t-Mobile is just less transparent about them. And here's the thing people in low tax states are essentially subsidizing those in higher tax states since t-mobile charges everyone the same price with taxes included. Well the taxes are still getting paid by T-Mobile.

Hello @gilmiguelangel! Knowing what you pay for is very important. Our shared plans do have an access fee. This is because the data most of the time will be shared between different lines, we only charge one data package per line and the access fee for each line you add. Our Unlimited Plans do not have an access fee, because the data in not shared. The last thing we want is to lose your preference. Having the best plan to suit you is a must, here is a link with our new Unlimited plans. http://spr.ly/6583DoomW

"Our shared plans do have an access fee." I have this fee on a single line. So what's your excuse there? I pay a plan fee with data and also this line access fee. You claim it's for shared plans but again mine is not shared. Scam

While they said "shared plans do have an access fee", they DIDN'T say "individual plans DON'T have an access fee", that is something you appear to have assumed.

Having a line access fee is simply the pricing structure Verizon has chosen to use. Why should someone with 5 lines and an 8 GB data allowance be paying the same amount to Verizon as someone with 1 line and an 8 GB data allowance. It doesn't make sense that a family with 5 lines should be paying the same amount as an individual with 1 line. The line access fee is one way around this inequity. Another way would be to have a sliding scale for the data tiers depending on how many people you have on your account like Verizon does with unlimited data.

Can you please send me a message about this also. I am planning on canceling Verizon tomorrow. Only because the rep told me $71 and now it is $91 monthly.  I know it is only $20 more but $20 that the rep failed to mention.
