Verizon Device Recycling program is an apparent SCAM!

My wife and I have been very loyal Verizon customers for many, many years now not having one single complaint or problem with our phones or service. I even highly recommended Verizon to many of our friends and relatives. This has now ALL CHANGED!  We, like so many others, HAVE BEEN SCAMMED by the so called Verizon Device Recycling program. Which we will be posting to all of our Facebook friends and Twitter followers informing them of this deceitful mess. On 09/24/14 we went into our local Verizon and upgraded our 4s's to the new iPhone 6's in the tune of $699.58. We were advised of the recycling program at that time. On 11/27/14 we signed up with the Device Recycling Program and received our envelopes a few days later. We are both retired now and are on fixed incomes and after reviewing the recycling program we decided this would best fit our needs. HAD WE ONLY KNOWN! On 10/30/14 we mailed our phones to the Device Recycling program in the envelopes provided by the program. Our 4s phones were in Otter Box Defender cases from day one. Her phone was in absolute pristine condition and working order. Mine on the other hand had a few scratches but also was in good working order. Finally on 11/14/14 I received an email that my 4s/submission number had been received by the recycling center but with no status updates to date. As of that same date,11/14/14 my wife's phone had not been received yet. This morning (11/16/14) my wife received her Verizon Electronic Gift Card in the amount of a mere $36.00 with no explanations. What happened to the $200 as advertised? Now I will begin the long up hill battle of attempting to get this rectified. I am a very disappointed customer at this point and certainly (after all I have read about others) don't hold much faith in Verizon at this point. I simply trusted the company that I have been with for so long to continue to support me and now I feel that we have been really deceived. If her phone is only appraised at $36, which is wrong than mine will be worth nothing because of a couple of small scratches. It is simply a shame that a company as large and as successful (profitable) as Verizon would allow this to happen to any of it's customers. Any upgrades in the future will be "Over the Counter" type of upgrades. I will never be part of a recycling program like this again. We can't even get the old phones back! I had much rather have the old phone than the mere $36 because I could give it to a family member. This is just a total abortion! Now the phone calls begin!!!!!

I am beginning to agree the trade in program is a scam also.  On 9-15-14 I called Verizon and spoke with a representative live and upgraded my iPhone 4s for the new iPhone 6 all because of the $200 trade in offer.  I was told by the rep that a box or mailing label would arrive with the phone and all I had to do was to mail back my old phone to receive the $200 promotion.  The phone was on backorder since it was new, and arrived on Oct 20, but with no box or label to mail back the old phone.  I called Verizon and was told I was given incorrect information on the phone and I had to sign up online for the promotion.  I went online, but since the promotion had ended by now, there was only a $100 trade in promotion.  I called Verizon to ask for the $200 promotion that was told to me, but my complaint was "elevated" and I was told someone would call be in 3 business days.  I waited 5 days with no call and called back myself and was told I was given wrong information and would be called in 5 business days.  I waited 7 days and called back only to have my complaint "elevated" a second time and was told I would be contacted by email within 7 days.  I waited 15 days and called back, today, and was told my complaint would be forwarded to customer care and I would hear back by email in 7-10 days.  Every time I call I get a different person and have to repeat the entire story with NO assistance or resolution.  Verizon used to be a good company, but apparently they don't care anymore.  I am just trying to get my $200 trade in promotion I was told by a live customer rep I was eligible for and was on the website at the time.  I have followed all of Verizon's directions and still have no resolution and no credit.  I asked that the original call recoding be listened to since all calls are recorded from customer service and was told they would do that and get back to me in 5 days, but guess what, they NEVER get back to me.  I want a supervisor from Verizon to CALL me and get me my $200 trade in that was advertised and promised to me and I followed all the steps I was told to by the customer rep.  This is frustrating and poor customer service.

I'm sorry you have been scammed. I too am beginning to wonder if this scheme is real. I traded my daughter's iPhone 5 for her 6 and did receive the $200 voucher as promised, however, I cannot use this voucher to pay my bill online, I have to take it to a physical Verizon store between receiving the bill and my auto payment going out - that's a scam in itself, since they are making it difficult to redeem the voucher.

I also received a quote in October for $100 for my wife's iPhone 4S, and received the email stating the packaging was on the way. No packaging has ever arrived. The phone number for the Verizon recycling program is never answered, and there are no responses to customer support emails to the places provided on Verizon sites. It is beginning to feel like an unscrupulous operation rather than a genuine program supported by a major public company.

Anyone else having these issues?

I can unequivocally say that it is not a scam.  I requested my trade during the last week of November for my Verizon 16 GB iPhone 4S.  I was quoted a price of $100.  When I received the envelope I followed the instructions verbatim for sending it in.  Around a week later I received an email to my account with the VZW egiftcard number and pin.  I received the $100 exactly as I was promised.

Wow.

First of all, you go to vzw.com/tradein to get your device appraised. Once the device recycling program gets your device and confirms it's in good working condition then a gift card is sent out to you. There is no "scam" customers failed to follow directions and then calls customer care whom have nothing to do with appraisals or issuing gift cards. So I'm sorry if the rep failed to mention how this trade in promo works but no, they don't assume your trading in a device with a purchase of an iPhone 6. That's why you didn't get any shipping materials.
