I am on a family plan and am thinking about upgrading my phone to a smartphone. How much does it cost to add a data plan and is it worth the price? Any insight will be appreciated.

With a smartphone, you will need to choose from different tiers of data which start at $30/2GB. If you are upgrading to a 4G smartphone, right now the data allowance is double so you get $30/4GB.
Only YOU can make the determination of whether or not it is worth the price. There are those that say it is worth the price and others which say no. It depends on how important having access to the data is to YOU. I have a data plan on my phone, so I obviously think it is worth the price, otherwise I would switch to a phone without a mandatory data plan.
