The last time I upgrade our phones I was forced to pay a $30 upgrade fee in addition to the cost of the new phones. Now they want $40 as an upgrade fee. I for one am now seriously considering walking away from this nonsense.

Consider paying full price upfront or doing Edge program. Both options have no $40 upgrade fee, and when you calculate costs over 24 months is usually cheaper than the subsidized price contract option.

Most carriers will have an upgrade fee for contract lines. Edge on Verizon and similar programs on other carriers usually don't have upgrade fees on lease programs.
