Unlocking Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My contract with Verizon expires shortly and I'd like to know what the procedure is for unlocking my phone to use with another carrier in the U.S.  What Verizon department would I contact?  Thanks.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus wasn't global ready and can't be unlocked.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

The  Galaxy Nexus certainly CAN be unlocked.

Where exactly can you take the phone to use on another carrier?

Another Carrier?!? Why on earth would a user want to leave VZW?

I must have mis-understood - I was informed that the boot loader could be unlocked, nothing relating to another carrier.

What would need to be unlocked to do that?

Thanks

The SIM card would have to unlocked for the cellular radios. Unfortunately the only GSM radio in the Galaxy Nexus is the 700 MHz frequency (band 13). This should be technically already unlocked because of the Block C rules imposed by the FCC, but only Verizon Wireless uses that frequency band. The CDMA radios would remain locked to Verizon Wireless, can't be unlocked and are incompatible with the other carriers CDMA or GSM networks.

The SIM unlock isn't the same thing as the bootloader unlock.
