Transfer Upgrade - Keeping Unlimited Data Plan

Miembro

We have a family plan with 5 devices.  Two of the lines have unlimited data, one has the $30/2gb plan, and two are basic phones.  We have several upgrades available since the basic phones haven't been upgraded regularly.

The person with the $30/2gb plan recently upgraded to an Iphone 4S in April, but now she has her eye set on the Iphone 5 when it comes out.

If she upgrades to the Iphone 5 in October, can I use her old Iphone 4S and keep my Unlimited plan?

(I wouldn't technically be upgrading my line.  Only her line would be an upgrade.  I would just be using the "discarded" phone.  I have switched back and forth between my current phone and my old phone before without issue when I left my current phone at work.  However, I am just worried there might be some footnote in the new plans that says you can't do this.)

That should be fine. For the time being, you only lose unlimited data if you upgrade that line with a new 2 yr contract.

yes it can be done because technically your only switching your device, It wont have any effect on your unlimited plan that your grandfathered into.

I was informed by Verizon Customer Service that, after June 28, Transfer Upgrades of a subsidized phone to a line with the Unlimited Feature would automatically result in the loss of that Unlimited Feature. What remains a gray area to me is if the subsidized phone was purchased prior to June 28 and then subsequently transferred to the Unlimited Line. Verizon is tracking all subsidized phone purchases from their store, so it seems there may be a risk unless Verizon is also factoring in the date of subsidized purchase (pre- or post- June 28). Time will tell for sure.

WOW, that is a new one... I am going to have to check this out with the couple of Verizon people I know. This would be very interesting to know if it is true..

If the replies you receive seem inconsistent, ask the rep to check their answer with the Training Team. The Training Team seems to provide the most consistent answers. Checking with them also helps the reps learn as new questions arise.

The upgrade contract is line specific. So even the phone is going to your daughters line the contract starts over on yours resulting in a loss of unlimited data on that line. It doesn't matter which phone line the phone is going on the contract is on your line. 100% fact

How do you ask the rep?  I mean I realize I could just go into a store and ask, but can you do that on the message board?  If so, how?

bellen30, what happens is that the contract goes onto your line even the phone is not going to be on that line. Because the contract is going onto your line it will remove the unlimited data plan and add the 2GB to your line since no new contracts will have the unlimited plan.
