Time to leave Verizon once and for all

Were to start????

First thing is to understand the situation. I purchased the verizon internet service for my retired in-laws.

I spoke with the representative and here they are retired and each has a laptop. They do the typical internet stuff like check email, surf and Facebook. The verizon representative suggested the 20gig a month plan was more than what they would need.

Well for some odd reason my in-laws capped that within the first 2 weeks. I was unsure what was going on and had no time to do an investigation on the spot from my location. My in-laws live in the states and I live overseas.

So I chose to upgrade the plan up to 30gig a month so I would not start getting charged $10 for every 1 gig they went over. My brother-in-law (somewhat tech savvy) went through all their settings and could not find anything outstanding.

So we had all the updates set for important only, turned off videos from auto start on Facebook and everything else we could think of.

I assumed it may have been an anomaly and everything was good to go. I was wrong!!! I was constantly getting data usage warning messages of them going over. In one month my verizon bill stated the internet usage was 45gig for the month, which the total charge was over $350 for that month.

The straw that broke the camels back was last month. Within 2 weeks of the new billing cycle, they had already reached their limit. In ONE DAY verizon data usage said they used 10gig. YES, 10 gig within 24 hours.

Every time I called I couldn't get a straight answer on an explanation, I even asked if the tech could do a data caption of the traffic for review.

Let me reiterate on the "every time I called", I was the only one that could call. Verizon would not talk to my wife as she was not on the account and here is another problem with that.

I opened this account at the first of December and every time I tried to add my wife to the account, a message displayed saying I had to wait 30 days after the account was opened.

Once again I called about THAT situation and was told they entered it in manually. Yeah, guess what didn't work, adding my wife to the account to take care of these matters as well.

SO, I contacted AT&T and explained the situation on how my in-laws are going over their 30gig a month limit within a few weeks. They “understood” my situation and I found out I wasn't the first person with this complaint.

SO I decided to purchased a pre-paid wireless internet hotspot for my in-laws approximately 30 days ago now. Hence is why there has been NO usage on my verizon bill so I can compare it to AT&T's.

My in-laws are doing the exact same thing on the internet as they have been for months. Their internet usage has literally been averaging 500MB a day, which equates to 15gig a month now.

No one can give me a viable reason for the over usage on verizons network. I even email the manager that initially contacted me to discuss this and never heard back from her.

Oh and it gets even better!!!

On last months bill I was charged an extra $20 and when I contacted a verizon Representative to ask why, here is what they told me. I am being charge for usage from previous month(s) data overage, below is a copy and paste from the bill.

“Unbilled Usage from Previous Months

(Data usage is applied against any remaining allowance for the month in which the usage occurred.)

Gigabyte Usage gigabytes 2.759(Used) – 2.000(Billable) – $20.00(Cost)”.

So verizon can't even get their billing system to work correctly????? You know I can understand that few hundred MB's is one thing, but to charge me for 2gig @ $20 and can not tell me when this accrued???

So now with all these problems and no explanation(s) why Verizon's internet usage doubles that of AT&T's, I still have to pay the $350 cancellation fee.

let me say this again, with AT&T my in-laws average 500MB a day = approximately 15gig a month. that is less than half of what they were going through with verizon in LESS THAN A MONTH!!

I strongly feel at this time, I may have to hand this over to someone of interest and let them take any necessary actions.

That was the first thing we (my brother in law) checked and no. After the initial set up and all default data was changed.

also, my in-laws live deep in the country, their nearest one neighbor is approximately 150 yards away (1.5 football fields). no other person is around them for over a half a mile.

Yes it is odd and I even worked with a verizon manager about this matter over a month ago. We have emailed her twice since then and no response.

The biggest question is why you are using a mobile connection in place of home internet?

They live out in the country which is a rural area. There is no cable or DSL internet as of right now. Dish/Hughes satellite service is not really a viable solution due to latency and slow bandwidth speeds.
