Share Everything Data Too Expansive

I have been waiting for months (literally now) for this plan to arrive.  I currently have 5 smart phones with Sprint and I pay about $220/month (inlc. tax and fees and a 22% employee discount).  I did expect to pay a premium in order to move to verizon.  After all, better signal and actual 4g coverage.  Here is how Verizon's new plan works out in our scenario:

5 smart phones (5x40) $200

10GB data plan           $100

That comes to 300 dollars per month.

I have been in contact with 2 reps this week who have finally completed their training.  They have both now confirmed to me that my employee discount will come off the data plan ONLY.

I get a 20% discount with Verizon so that would bring my monthly cost "down" to $280 per month, before taxes and fees mind you.  I think Verizon needs MORE options.  I DON'T need unlimited data and text, we use about 500 of the 1500 shared minutes with sprint (sprint gives you unlimited mobile to mobile...ANY mobile, we typically use less than 6GB/month).  I don't think my voice will heard but maybe if enough people complain about this something will change.  Especially if they're interested in increasing their customer base.  Please consider changing how this "share everything" plan works or give us more options.  I WANT to be your customer but can not afford you as it stands right now.  I also WANT Verizon's better coverage but DON'T NEED it.  We are looking at a $80 difference per month and that's not something I'm willing to pay, I'd rather go back to crappy 3g or even prepaid.

The Share Everything plan is tailor-made to be beneficial to the people who talk/text a lot but don't use much data. If you use a lot of data, it becomes a raw deal. The less you talk and text, the worse the deal gets.

Example: On my line, we have 2 smart phones and 2 basic phones. We have the 1400 minute family share plan (which gives us unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited nights and weekends, and 10 unlimited "friends and family" lines that we can call and it won't use any of our "anytime" minutes) with unlimited text. We never, ever go over our minutes (rarely ever use half). We also have two unlimited data plans (me and my wife average about 8 GB a month combined). So on the data share plan, if you break it down, we have to pay $90 a month for 8 GB of data, plus another $80 a month for 2 smart phones, plus another $60 a month for 2 feature phones, which brings us to a grand total of $230, before taxes. I currently pay $200 a month for my plan. So to basically get what I'm getting now, I'd end up paying $30 a month more. Not beneficial at all.

However, let's say me and my wife and my other two lines didn't use a lot of data, but we all talked a bunch and wanted smart phones (let's face it, feature phones are crap anymore - just look at the reviews online). Unlimited minutes would be awesome, and if we could share 1 GB of data on 4 lines (not impossible if you use wifi at home/work), that would end up being $50 (for 1 GB of data) plus $160 for 4 smart phones = $210, which would be pretty sweet.

Of course, this isn't the case for MOST people. Most people are using more and more data, and talking less. Which is exactly the way Verizon structured the plan the way they did.

Who wants to go to Virgin Mobile?

Thanks for your reply Emagehtmal.  I tried to make the 1400 minute plan work for us but it doesn't.  We would end up paying $150/month and data alone (5x30).  All they have to do is make the employee discount apply to LINES instead of the data plan.  That way I'd pay $160 for the lines and $80 for data, $240 sounds much more reasonable.

Verizon is not looking to expand their customer base.  They are looking to maximize profits.  If you want the best network in the country, it's going to cost you.  If you want cheap, stay where you are.

I'm sorry, but after reading Lowell McAdam's pathetic attempts to sugar-coat this shameless rapacious usury that is now passing for data pricing to his investors this morning, and the stalwart support of the perennial shills on here notwithstanding, there is just no way you can spin this on anyone with any modicum of intelligence and expect them to swallow the fiscal idiocy of $50 for ONE Gig of data as in any way reasonable, cost-effective, or any other way justifiable.

Adding insult to injury, the data only sharing plans start at a much more reasonable $30 for 4 Gig (plus access fees as per the phone plans) shows how inconsistent these prices are. $30 for 4 Gig is something I can live with. $50 for ONE Gig is not.

If you're only using 6 GB why are you purchasing the 10 GB plan? The 6 GB tier is $80 and after you 20% discount it would be $64. Still more than what you're paying for with Sprint. So I'll say stick with Sprint. Make sure you tell the Verizon rep that you'r sticking with Sprint because these new plans stink and then when Verizon lowers their prices you'll think about switching. If Verizon gets enough of these hits they'll offer up better pricing. If Verizon can't see that getting $220 a month from you is better than ZERO and millions of others, hopefully they'll go bankrupt.

Even keeping CURRENT pricing which is $30 for 2 GB $50 for 5 GB and $80 for 10 GB is much better than these new plans. And most people would stop complaining.

Not everyone thinks like you.  I have a feeling more people will be coming over than leaving.  Not everyone uses their cell phones like you do, and do not use their phones are their home network as well.

Those prices don't change...  You still never bother to understand how it works...  The only people that really complain about it are datahogs.

I DO get how it works. Please quit being condescending. Can I get 5 GB Of $50 on the new share plans? Nope. THAT'S the issue. So the only one that doesn't get it is YOU. Yes I'm a data hog that's why I have been paying $15 a month for 150 MB for 19 months now and have NEVER gone over because I'm a hog. Nice ASSUMPTION. You know what they say about people that ASSUME.

from now on quit responding to my posts. I'm sure this board has an ignore feature I suggest you use it.
