Re: Scam: voicemail - account suspended

Miembro

Edwin_W, are you responding directly to me or the whole community? Your response was so confusing as I was never asked for a pin since the line disconnected as soon as I chose option #2. Also, I'm a child of the 21st century, so I know how to block spam calls - but thanks for your support. These particular calls are coming to ALL OF US directly from our Verizon Voicemail, so the calls cannot be blocked. How about trying to figure out a solution to this?

Gracias por habernos avisado sobre este asunto. However, we will never make an outbound call to advise you of something like this.  We ask that when you receive a call like this, you don't share any account information. Scammers are getting more sophisticated by the day, and they are looking to defraud unsuspecting customers. Also, we recommend that you change your online password and account PIN as security measures. This first link will have the steps to change your account PIN (refer to item 4): http://spr.ly/6181EwSMD.  This link will have the steps to change the password: http://spr.ly/6182EwSME. Lastly, if you ever become a victim of fraud, here is a link you can use to report it and start a claim, see here http://vz.to/2nvOWhu. Does that help?

They call me every frikking day saying there was a suspicious order on my account that was shipped to a different address... called is voicemail which flags it immediately as a scam. If Verizon calls it will show a real number! Verizon needs to step up and block spoofed numbers!

The only calls I ever get nowadays are either spam or scam so it is no great thing to not answer.

MaryB_MN, I can definitely understand how much of a nuisance it can be to get nuisance calls. While our Call Filter service (https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/call-filter-faqs/) does a good job of blocking numbers that have been identified as spam, it's harder to block spoofed numbers because those are real numbers that belong to someone and to block them would possibly prevent the real owner of the number from being able to contact someone when they need to. It's definitely something we're trying to get a better handle on as these type of calls are one of the leading reasons that we're contacted for and we would prefer it be for other account matters.

berdwn, spam calls are not what we want for you. Our goal is to help. Other than not answering the calls, you can report spam calls here https://donotcall.gov/. I hope this is beneficial.

The Do Not Call list is a joke. It has never worked. Unless phone companies take the info from the database and actually use it, then it will never work.
I got the call from "Verizon Voice Mail" tonight, too. That's the 2nd time. And both times the same scam, my "account has been suspended."  I never believed it either time. But being they spoofed a call FROM Verizon Voice Mail, there's no way to block it. Unless Verizon takes a little initiative to dig into these and see where the call REALLY originated, and block that source. Their customers meanwhile have to put up with this. I was thinking a new law was passed recently that REQUIRES phone companies to stop these crooks.

I have also received similar calls on my device, LewisFamily. I know how concerning that can be. If the call came from your voicemail, that means the caller spoofed their identity to make it look like your own number was calling (your voicemail is your mobile number). With that being said, Caller ID Spoofing is not something that only happens to Verizon customers. This is an industry wide concern and all carriers are working towards solutions to minimize this inconvenience to our customers. My best recommendation is to not answer calls that show up as your voicemail, and also try using our Call Filter application to limit unwanted calls. I will include some helpful links below. Does this help clarify?

How would Call Filter help when the number being spoofed is your own? You can't block that or you wouldn't  be able to get voicemail, unless I'm missing something here.
